SpatzModeratorI think I got a cold just reading through that… seriously wrapped up in a blanket right now.I hate the cold. Hate hate hate. But it all makes perfect sense. Part of my mom's cancer cell killing program she went on also included hot and cold showers, taking both side to as extreme as she could stand it. The hubby takes those now, but I just can't bring myself to do that... Seriously hate being cold. Though I suppose this would help me from being cold later in life once I'm "adapted" to it. But still.. BRR! Also, when he talked about going really cold right off the bat, for 15-20 seconds, then turning the water off to shampoo, etc... (great water saver as well...) and then once you turn the water back on your body won't feel that initial shock quite so bad because your wonderful little adapting body has started to regulate itself. This really hit home because when I was working in Alaska these past years I would always go swimming at least once a month, and to do that in that FREEZING FREAKING COLD water, I would jump in, and immediately jump out. Shiver a bit and seriously think about if I wanted to jump back in, and then I would and the water would feel cold, but not like little knives like it did the first time. That's how I did it everytime, and told others who wanted to try an "arctic swim" to jump in, jump out.. pause... then jump in and swim around the boat. 🙂So this article made a lot of sense to me, thanks for sharing! -and I might just try it since I'm adverse to the idea of not bettering my body because I'm a little sissy. 😉

sipock98MemberGreat article!!When I was Crossfitting 100%, I would come in so hot and jump straight in to the shower. I would start off luke warm then gradually decrease the temp to no hot water. It was a bit cool but if felt so good. I think I will try this in the mornings.I wonder if its better to do it post workout or anytime? Thanks Sano!

Brandon D ChristParticipantCold showers are awesome before bed. They can really reduce your body temperature and make you relax.

I've read that both work.. And from a "scientific" approach, they both make sense.. When you go to sleep, your body temp naturally drops a couple degrees, so the idea with the cool water is to lower that more quickly and thus, theoretically, getting to sleep quicker.. Hot water also works cuz it raises your body temp, so you get a rebound kind of effect from the air that is now quite a bit cooler than your body temp. Both work for me!

joshua wrightParticipantDidn't read the articles but methinks it to be one of those things like spot reduction some people cover their body in sweats while training becaue of the belief of thermogenic process kicks in in a given area of the body, while others believe that you are in the cold with your training it will force your thermogenic from you core temperature to go up and increase bat burning capabilities

CBachelor17MemberRead the articles yesterday afternoon, I often times “rinse” with cool water but never cold. Tried the method of continually getting colder and colder, then rinsed in cold AF water for the min 3 minutes. After drying off it felt like I was just injected with something. haha felt great and energized. Ill give the cold shower theory a go around and see if I notice any changes.

I'm with Ibob here. Cold showers are amazing for sleep, I'd recommend them to anyone who has really late night training.

joshua wrightParticipantOkay so I was watching “amazing race” they were in finland or czech republic and they had a therapy for athletes that was -180 degrees. They said it is used for recoveryÂ
