MagParticipantI started Carb Back-Loading about a week ago and am trying to figure out how to space the evening meals out a little better. With work and travel,I haven't been getting dinner in until 7pm,then train PWO shake, another meal, bedtime meal,it's just too close together. And I work on a construction site all day,so feeding isn't convenient, except for lunch.I'm thinking I may have to have dinner right after getting off work,on the road.Anyone else do this? For folks who don't late night train, the protocol is to have a carby dinner before training, just so you can get the day's supply of food in somehow.I don't really want to fix dinner and pack it before work and carry/store it all day, that's a really long time,so I will have to stop somewhere. So,any ideas or fast food suggestions?

SpatzModeratorI would suggest finding a good hamburger, and getting it minus the bun. Some places even lettuce wrap! I actually just got me a bunless hamburger at Buffalo Wild Wings since the hubby really really wanted to go. So find a restaurant that you enjoy their burgers, and have them bunless. If you can find one with grassfed beef, that'd be your best bet. I would forever stay away from McDonalds……. …

Richard SchmittModeratorA lot of hole in the wall places (mom and pop shops) are way better than fast food restaurants. Most of them prepare their own beef patties and better. You can ask them to whip you up a couple without the bun. In and Out Burgers have a Low Carb Version. Sit down restaurants that offer To-Go meals are great too. I'm not entirely sure but places like Quik-Trip have hot dogs on those roller belts. I'm sure its not healthy or good but can make due if need be. Also pork rinds at those gas stop places.

For the time being,I am backloading everyday, till I get a little more bio feedback. Some days my job is a decent workout itself.Do I need to avoid the bun? From the book:"Training @9pm""DINNER""Hypertrophic Potentiator Formula,1 shake""Something Heavy and Carby:Steak or Chicken 4 to 8 oz.,mashed Potatoes, alternatives:hamburger with fries,Reubens with hashbrowns......"unlike all the other programs, late night training gives you a heavy carb meal before training.I guess because you have a small window to train and eat a couple of meals and some shakes. The challenge for me is that I travel to different sites constantly, over a wide area,so it is not a matter of finding a place or two to use on a regular basis.I could also hit a supermarket if need be and fix up a pretty awesome fresh sandwich.

TCBParticipantWith work and travel,I haven't been getting dinner in until 7pm,then train PWO shake, another meal, bedtime meal,
Instead of eating dinner right after work, why not immediately go hit your workout, then PWO shake, then 1-2 BL meals? You could also try doing all your PWO carbs in one meal. That's how I did it for about a month and it worked just fine. I'd workout from 4-5ish, do a PWO shake, then about 6:30 I'd have a huge meal with all my carbs, then about 9 I'd have a small ULC meal before bed.

My training schedule would be rough to change, because I get home around 7ish(sometimes later) depending on my travel distance, traffic, etc and I train at home.yeah, ideally I would train 4-5pm.But I do have an earlier window to get some food in.

Brandon D ChristParticipantI have no problem with the occasional McDonalds. Really the food there isn't that bad and it's better than not eating, unless you don't care about being big and strong. Even Kiefer recommends fast food in certain situations. If this is a regular thing, I would just pack a cooler every day. I eat meat cold all the time. However Mag, you DO NOT have pre-workout carbs unless you are Density Bulking. Even if you train at night.

Got to be a better fast food chain than McDonalds,no?Yeah, right now I am density bulking, and am backloading every night.Along with my daily workload,I think it is the smart place to start.I would say,I am not taking in any more calories as before I started, but I have radically rearranged how and when I take carbs, fats and proteins.I'm not getting any fatter, but am looking bigger and fuller.

Are you including carbs at lunch?I guess I am carb fasting for as long as possible,at least until 5pm,usually later.

I think all fast foods resturants are about the same when it comes to food quality. I don't know, maybe there is some new trendy one in San Francisco or something, but where I'm from they are all comparable.Ok now I'm confused what kind of meal are you looking for on the road? An ULC meal or a meal with carbs?

Meal with carbs,as per the CBL meal plan for train@9pm.I am trying to get some time between,,meals ,shakes and training and backloading. But,as Kiefer says, even junk food or any other should be the least processed available.
