conny8412MemberHey Guys,Just started up on Carb Nite last Monday (the 2nd). Did really well all week last week, high protein/fat, ULC throughout week. I have a couple buddies that have lost nearly 100lbs from Carb Nite and they said i could decrease the 10 day prep phase by wearing down my carb stores. Keifer also refers to this in the book, as we all know. I lift heavy 4 times a week and did so last week (mon, tuesday, thursday, saturday) and i did some cardio Thursday to try to wipe out the carbs i had left. I ended up doing my 1st carb nite Saturday (the 7th) which was on the 6th night of my prep phase (not the 10th). I thought i worked my body enough to decrease the days to 6. Was i right here? How can i tell? Im worried i may have done the prep phase incorrect and that i may need to restart my prep phase which i technically did yesterday with another ULC day...Another wrench that was thrown into this was i broke the 2 drink alcohol limit on my carb nite Saturday as well. Will this factor in on whether or not i should re prep for the full 10 days? let me know your guys' thoughts. While i could re-prep, Keifer also warns against "skipping a week" for carb nite and actually reversing the fat loss affects so i dont want to do that either if im alright with what im doing now. I probably wont carb nite again til next saturday....

janice garriganMemberYou would have no way of really knowing if you depleted carbs enough when you ended the prep phase early (or even if you'd finished the prep phase for the full time, for that matter) unless you tested your blood ketones with a meter.That being said, it seems like you're altering the protocol a bit too much. 10 day prep period. 2 drink limit. 7 days between carb nites. 6-8 hours a piece. There are guidelines. As Keifer said on his garagewarrior podcast, following the program as outlined will produce results for EVERYONE unless they are very severely metabolically damaged. I have certainly found that results thing to be true for me. Just go with the flow as he outlined it. Also, not sure this is a high protein diet. It is a keto-genic diet from my understanding, which is not high protein. Gentlemen? ring in here?thanksGood luck. I hope you find this to be as effective and helpful as I have!

conny8412MemberThanks for the info. I think I naturally get the protein from the amount of meat I've been eating. Beef, chicken and pork are some common staples. Lifting on a regular basis, I think protein is an important thing to stay ontop of. Along with getting the fats in, I was very strict with the carbs and probably didn't surpass 15g during the 6 days I prepped. I asked the question on shortening the prep phase because it stated in the book it is possible to cut the prep phase down a few days if all carb stores are exhausted. I lifted heavy 4 days last week along with a day of heavy cardio so I felt Carb Nite on my 6th night was acceptable. If it wasn't, I just need to know how to patch it up from here. Go on ULC for a full 10 days now or will I be alright with another CN next Saturday which would give me almost 7 days of ULC…Also, I thought I read atleast 5 days in between each carb nite, is it 7? I appreciate the guidance guys/ girls, just want to make sure I'm moving forward in the right matter...

This is a guideline based on convenience, not effectiveness of the diet. i.e. Saturday tends to be a popular night for people to go off because of obvious social reasons. But you can have a carb nite after 5 days while maintaining effectiveness of the diet.

SpatzModeratorAgreed with Reis. The 7 days is general for most people, the 5 days is minimum. I do once every 5 days myself and started off that way. I have never had an issue with keeping my carb nights at 5 days, I'm fine with it landing on a wednesday, or thursday since I don't go out much. I have only done 7 days for convenience when I want my carb nite to land on a special occasion like Christmas Party, or birthday, or new years. I just plan ahead. So min -5 days, max -2 weeks. (Though Dr Patel has extended his diabetic patients longer that 2 weeks for benefit.) For example, this week I'm doing 6 days to land my Carb nite on this coming Saturday, and then doing 7 days to get it to land on the next saturday for a christmas party with the family. Then back to 5, and 5 to land my carb nite on new years eve for the new years party. I love how flexible the days are so I can mold it to my monthly schedule.

SpatzModeratorBeats me man. Personally I prefer to be a “better safe than sorry” type of gal, so without a doubt I would redo my prep phase. But that's just me, because I HATE worrying my little head over “Did I do it long enough? Did I screw it up? Am I losing fat? Am I stalling?” for a good month later just because I wasn't being extra cautious about it. However, other may say “Don't worry about it!” Just my personal opinion and what I would do if I were in that situation. I don't feel that the drinks ruined your progress, or your prep phase, I just don't think it helped further you towards your weight loss. More like helping you stall that one night. But not enough to re-do the prep phase. However cutting your prep phase shorter than prescribed? That's why I would do it again.
