Hi. As it is my second week on CN and this morning I was reading Kiefer's CBL book. Then I found this:

NOTE: Using caffeinated energy drinks is notan option, although I wish they were with thevariety and prevalence. The sugar-free versionsdon’t work—not normally, anyway—because theycontain  the  artificial  sweetener  acesulfamepotassium also labeled as acesulfame-K. Of all thesweeteners, wouldn’t it figure that the only one thatspikes insulin levels is the one that’s in nearly allsugar-free drinks?

And I have been drinking a lot of sugar-free drinks like Coca-Cola Zero, Pepsi Max and Sprite Zero. What do you think? Have I messed up the whole diet by doing this? Should I start from the beginng with the 10-day adjusting period or just continue normally without the sugar-free drinks? The weird thing is that I can't find any of this in CN book. Why is that? Isn't that something that should be mentioned? 😮Aaaand if this is true. What can I drink beside water? Even milk is out of the question... Any suggestions? ;D

It actually is covered he has a list of red light sugars and oils and yellow light sugars and oils there are a few sugar replacements on the yellow list that you can take advantage things with xylitol in it can be used with caution ziva is the sugar free soda that comes to mind. If you look in his food list there are several no carb sodas and teas that he says are ok for the diet as well. Diet Hansen is the brand he recommends in CN. I think there are few Arizona teas in there too. He is a little confusing though in CN as he mentions using sugar replacements to your advantage at one point earlier in the book and then gives them a red letter latter.  I have been attempting to create a good homemade caffeine free tea and would really like to know what sugar substitutes are ok my self. He recommends pure stevia powder but it is prohibitively expensive.  I also had my concerns with a few of the tea bags I found having sweetness to them already so there sneaking a sugar in there some how I don't know how. Kiefer dose not dive into the science of how it all works in CN that much. So I have been living buy the motto "play it safe". I actually had to do my CN orientation period twice because I drank on new years and should have just made that my CN.

Thanks for the reply. In CN he did mention about Hansen's diet soda however it's not unfortunately available here in Finland.I checked the local supermarket and found only one diet soda which didn't have acesulfame-K.

    Code:
NUTRITION INFORMATION 100 mLEnergy 7 kJ (2 kcal)Protein 0 gCarbohydrates 1 gWhich sugar 1 gFat 0 gOf which saturated 0 gDietary fiber 0 gSodium <0.01 gINGREDIENTSWaterOrange juice concentrate (water, orange juice from concentrate 2%)Acidity regulators (citric acid, sodium citrate, potassium citrate)Natural flavorsStabilizers (pectin, propylene glycol alginate, locust bean gum) Antioxidant (ascorbic acid) Color (beta-carotene, apocarotenal)Carbon dioxide Sweetener (aspartame) Preservatives (potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate) Contains a source of phenylalanine

By Google Translate 😛On a quick look do you see anything harmful? Or is the 1g/100ml of sugar already a dead end? And if not, how much is the limit on sugar per day? Maybe i'll just have to start drinking carbonated water. ;D

The orange juice would pose a problem during the ULC part of the day. At least that is what would concern me.

I actually I just read the label of the diet hansen soda I found it has Acesulfame in it so it seems nothing is safe. Perhaps there are some flavors that are ok but black cherry is out.

Oh well, maybe they have changed it or Kiefer didn't know it upon writing CN... or something. Well anyway thanks for this.

It's only 2% so feels weird it could affect so much. Well better to be safe than sorry and save it for a CN. I think it's safe for CN at least? 😀

Diet Snapple contains Aspartame but that's about it. Book says its safe so I've bought a few jugs. Lots of good flavors out there, too.
