DerekcervaParticipantIf looking to add mass would it be acceptable to take bcaa pre training, I know the insulin response from the leucine will blunt any fat burning, but say for example your going to take hbcd and whey intra anyways. The bcaa would help fight muscle fatigue correct?

Bradley R. CollinsParticipantI take it pre training, but I also train fasted first thing in the morning. I take it as insurance against muscle catabolism since by the time I train it's been 12-14 hours since I last ate anything. So far so good.

I think that there is a very wide misconception of what BCAA are going to do fasted, unfasted, and on any type of nutrition timing or diet. BCAA pre in a CN situation is going to give you energy for your training, additionally it will probably HELP fat oxidization if you are in a fasted state. As far as your situation where you are trying to put on mass. The early hours of the day you are not burning fat- You may be "using some" as fuel, but don't mistake keeping insulin levels low on DB during the day with burning fat.The whole point of this is to keep the body from indicating it wants to "store" anything until post training. Meaning your burning your glycogen/fat during the day, and storing your food post.

GnomerParticipanti do PM training and have tried BCAA intra on and off for awhile now.. honestly have noticed no benefit to adding it in.. might be helpful for AM fasted training but haven't noticed any noticable benefit for myself to warrant the price of it.. id rather spend the money on actual protein and pre-workout mixes

CBachelor17MemberRight- In a DB situation esp with evening training BCAA supplementation is most beneficial as an additive to a bland (no bcaa added) protein mix, or maybe an intra for long sessions. For pre-training i personally recommend them for those running a CN or going in in a depleted state.
