Guy KirklandMemberHello All,In regards to a.m. training on CBL and the strength accumulation protocol, I should backload in the evening BEFORE I train, correct? So I train, M/W/F. I should backload Sun/Tues/Thurs evening. Now, how about the evening of training days? Treat those as off days and not eat carbs or should I consume carbs then as well?In regards to the backload that happens in the evening before morning training, is it correct to consume less sugary carbs and stick more with rice and potatoes for that backload time?Lastly, my baseline carb number is 295. Am I correct in assuming that if I stay below that number, say 150-200, then I should lose weight. If I go above that number I could gain weight?Thoughts?AdGuy

Richard SchmittModeratorYes backload the night prior to an AM Training day, that training day you'll be ULC unless training the following morning. No that line of thinking is not really correct. It all depends on what you need and should get. Playing around with that number can be ideal. Stick to glucose and starches for carbs, the sugary stuff that you're refering to can be helpful as well. Just something you have to try.

Guy KirklandMemberSo, to be clear, I only backload on the evening before I train the next morning. Stay ULC on training days with the exception of a PWO shake, correct? I've been confused by that. That said, I trained yesterday morning. I backloaded the evening before. Because I was confused, I backloaded again last night. Once again, it was a training day. So, my question is that because I train Friday morning, should I backload again tonight? That will be carbs for 3 days in a row. Or should I just start over with the prep phase?

Yes, the PWO Shake is ULC. Just whey, leucine, and creatine.I think you'll be fine, you can try to backload tonight and see what happens for tomorrow. You most likely burned through that glycogen by lifting, along with anything else you most likely did, you'll be fine.

If you're primary focus is fat loss, I'd leave carbs out of the PWO for AM training. If you're willing to sacrifice a bit of fat loss, then you can take advantage of an increased anabolic response by including a bit of carbs PWO, after fasted AM training.
