conny8412MemberHey All,Seeing some good progress on CN so far. I do work out frequently and was just wondering if the volume was/is too high for CNS? Ive been using the Layne Norton PHAT program, hitting body parts twice a week in a power/hypertrophy split (similar to my westside barbell college days). My question is, is this too much since im on CNS and not CBL? Im planning on switching to CBL when i hit 210 lbs. Im 6'3" weighing right around 215 this morning and pretty damn lean but no abs yet which im kinda pissy about.Do i have my days at the gym where i feel weak? Of course. But its not everyday/often.Another question would be, my CN's are on Saturdays. I lift Mon/tues/thurs/fri/sat. Usually the mon/tuesday are my 2 "power days' of the program. Very heavy/low reps. When i get to the tail end of the week, im in the 3/4 sets 8-12 reps higher volume workouts. In your opinion, should i keep it the same or flip flop the power days to the end of the week and hypertrophy workout in the beginning (closer to post CN)?

Richard SchmittModeratorHonestly yes it's too much while on CNS, better on CBL.The heavier days would be better after the CN.

conny8412MemberThanks for the input. Ive felt fine to this point. Im getting stronger still and seem to be getting leaner. Just wanted to make sure i was hurting anything at this point. I dont really do cardio at all.

I wouldn't say this is too much at all then.

conny8412MemberHeres some progress…Both after pics are the same and were taken last Saturday, the 1st.First photo shows January 2013 at 294 lbs (on left) - i was a big boy haha. I simply cut calories and started back in the gym from Jan '13-May '13 and dropped all the way down to 225lbs (was very happy but sucked cutting calories being hungry all the time). Once May rolled around, i took the summer lightly, didn't really diet but watched what i ate and didn't lift AS much. I got up to 235 lbs., which still wasn't bad for me (at 6'3/4").This past December 2013, i was persuaded by a few buddies to start CNS. I started the 2nd week in December at 235 lbs (left/before pic on second photo).Again, the after pic was last weekend at around 219. I weighed in at 215.6 this morning and plan to take another progress photo Saturday AM.Not sure if i'm lean enough for CBL yet...Any thoughts?? A goal was to have abs by summer (never had them).Jan '13-Last WeekendDec '13-Last Weekend (CNS Activated)

Doyle20MemberI did PHAT for a few months last year, one of my favorite routines. I started out running it while doing CNS and made the switch to CBL about a month in and definitely saw better progress strength wise with CBL. I didn't think i was really struggling that much performance wise while on CNS, but once I started eating more carbs I for sure noticed a difference especially on the hypertrophy days. Can't say i got much leaner since reintroducing the carbs but I was more focused on the strength part anyway. You may wanna try CBL for a little bit and see how it goes, if it doesn't work the way you want it to you can always go back to CNS

conny8412MemberIm pretty strong as is, if anything, id like to stay as lean as i am now and put on some mass. I am just always fearful of gaining fat. Ive never “bulked” before or used a program like that. its taken me along time to get this lean so i dont want to ruin it. I did buy CBL and it looks like SA would be my best route. SHould i backload after every workout? If so, how many carbs you think keeping in mind i want to stay lean? I am an easy gainer, i could gain a ton of weight in a short amount of time – which also worries me
