cloudybrainParticipantHey guys.. it's been a while since I been here. One thing that I noticed happening lately is that I'm pushing my hours more and more.. to the point that my workout has been happening at 10pm or 11pm at night. This has been the most convenient time for me to work out lately.. less people.. not so crowded/noisy.. and it's definitely my "me time".But then I'd go to sleep like 1-2 hours later. Does carb backloading provide adequate window frame to be eating loads of carbs in that time? For the past few weeks.. I figured I could be eating carbs maybe 2 hours before I go work out.. but read that I'd be slowing down fat loss.I would also eat a few carbs when I'm not training either.. right before I go to sleep.. I heard that works for some people.. and not for others. Since I left carb night in favor of carb backloading.. I gained ~10lbs of weight.. I'm assuming it's mostly water weight. I also noticed my arms are getting nice and toned as well.. forming a peak.Any suggestion or alternatives I should try when working so late at night? I'm trying to eventually put my workout to be earlier.. like 6 or 7.. but there's simply too many people.. and tons of times that's when I'm still at work.

Richard SchmittModeratorNormally having carbs in the PWO shake and a carb dinner is best. There are a couple folks here who train very late at times and still make it work. Also that 10lbs increase is water weight and filled glycogen stores.

cloudybrainParticipantalright great deal.. I usually start eating carbs around 6ish or 7ish.. morning till then are just fats and proteins. I treat my backloading as a mini carb nite.. with like a plate of rice.. potatoes.. and chicken.. followed by a brownie and cookies. So 6ish or 7ish.. i graze on sugary foods.. 10 oclock I hit the gym.. for an hour. 11:30 I eat the carb backloading meal.. and sleep like an hour or 2 later. As long as this is fine.. then I really shouldn't fear anything then.

Richard SchmittModeratorThat's not what I was saying to do or suggesting. Basically you Backload PWO not Pre.

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorHonestly if you can get carbs in PWO still you should. I would add in Intra-workout and then finish post workout rather then doing pre-workout carbs.

cloudybrainParticipantah.. alright I'll make the switch tomorrow. I've been doing this for the last month.. you wouldn't think anything extremely bad was happening during that time. right? Like, maybe I gotten a bit fatter.. or something along those lines.. but could prolly be easily corrected given enough time.I was gonna do backloading for 2 months, and maybe go back to carb nite again. Maybe I should stick with carb loading for another month.. given that I changed it to completely carbs after the workout. One more thing.. can I still eat carbs on a non training day before going to bed? or just post work out?
