In the examples in CBL it says to have no carbs in the PWO shake in several of the examples, including the “training @ 4pm”. Can someone clarify why this is?  Thanks.

It just depends on the goals and the person. Some people prefer not to have carbs in the PWO shake and some people it actually kills their appetite so it becomes hard to eat.Just try both ways and do what works best for you.

I've tried both, and appetite wise, they are the same for me. I thought it had something to do with the "window" one is having carbs. I remember Kiefer saying something about the body not being able to turn carbs to fat for a couple of hours from introducing carbs, after being ULC.

but, is there any benefit or downside to include the carbs from either muscle growth or fat loss perspective?

Well, again it depends. If you have trouble eating enough to get the carbs you need it can be helpful, but many people choose to skip so they can eat more carbs.
