leonard francoisMemberSo I've been doing CBL for a while now, and I did a routine blood test. Pretty much everything seems fine, but I got a pretty high LDL cholesterol of 2.27 g/l (5.87 mmol/l). I got a pretty good HDL Cholesterol of 0.61 g/l (1.58 mmol/l) though.Should I panic? Or is it to be expected since I eat more than 100g of saturated fat in butter/cheese and animal fat every day?PS : I'm 32yo

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorDo more research on Cholesterol. Look into Jimmy Moore's new book, and I'm sure so other members will chime in as well.I wouldn't worry much if all with only those numbers.

KARLITOMemberFrom what I know though articles, researches and books I read, dietary cholesterol doesn't raise blood cholesterol.

Lawrence SturmMemberFor some people diet is believed to manifest changes in lipid profiles very quickly. One guy I read feels like in 11 days he can substantially manipulate his lipid profile. From what I understand a high LDL reading while on low carb could be fat burning, could be genetics. But I don't think you can conclude off of one set of changes which it is. More testing required or if you don't have health issues to worry about just wait it out and as you stabilize fat wise have another lipid profile. For most people that is what I would recommend. If you're fat stablilized and going to make a lifestyle out of this you may want to investigate further. Latest body io with Dr. Rocky talks about one view of whether it is an issue and if it is what you may want to do about it. Dr Rocky is very cognizant of the issues and it is worth understanding his perspective on the issue. Here is a well written thoughtful post on one person's struggle with the issuehttp://www.lowcarbdietitian.com/blog/lipid-changes-on-a-very-low-carb-ketogenic-diet-my-own-experienceChris Kessler and Peter Attia have also written about the issue.

SpatzModeratorWhat are your HDL and Triglyceride numbers?
June 29, 2014 at 9:07 am #221872
leonard francoisMemberYeah, I listened to the last podcast, and also red some of Cholesterol clarity book from Jimmy Moore, and it is quite interesting. My triglycerides levels are 0.52 g/l (0.59 mmol/l) so I guess that is pretty good? HDL Cholesterol is 0.61 g/l (1.58 mmol/l) which I think is pretty good too. I don't know about CPR-C reactive protein.Fasting blood sugar was 0.87 g/l.Pretty much everything else is good in my blood results (beside elevated basophils at 110 mm3)Right now I'm 1.83m tall and weight 84kg. I could lose some weight but I'm trying to bulk so I'm not really trying.

Gl;itch.eMemberCholesterol can be raised short term by stress. Diet would be included in this. Cholesterol is protective and hence why its often raised in response to stressors.
