TwinkeelfoolParticipantI'm about a week into CBL from CNS. I switched as I had kind if stalled for a while and I'd started doing more weights than previously. I also upped my calories as i don't think I was eating enough ( 5'9 78kg 1850 cals 3 x resistance training a week ), 190g fat, 170 protein. Anyway, apart from noticing a definately increase in lifting performance after back loading the night before am training, i seem to have blown up a little around my stomach. Just seems bigger. It's only early so not too worried, as I would like to add a bit of muscle. Is it just an adjustment, or is it possible I ate too many carbs. I had 300g the night before bench 5x5. Next workout was legs ( I have a knee full of wire so I have to adjust training around that ) so I dropped it to 250. These were 2 days in a row. Next workout is Friday so Thursday night I'll try 200g I think. Back loads have been mostly cereal ( gluten free ) and just white rice. Thinking of also upping total calories to 2000, via 250g fat and 160 protein. Thoughts???

Christopher GrahamParticipant1850 cals is starvation territory for an active healthy adult male imo. So its no surprise you may gain a little in the switch, monitor your carbs and find your sweet spot as you adjust. As a reference point my 5ft4, 54 year old mum weighed in at 52kg when she won her first figure show, she was on 1800 calories for the last few weeks of her 20 week prep.

Stephen WilliamsParticipantI tried front loading carbs the night before a workout session and I gain around my waist. Pretty much did a 360 on fat loss. I think having carbs the night before is mostly a performance alteration. If you want to keep the weight off I would recommend still Backloading the night after lifting as the suggested daily meal examples in the back of the book show. Since muscle protein synthesis supposedly is elevated for 24 hours after lifting heavy you still get the benefit. You also get some by following the macro recommendations on BackLoading days.
