OceanrezMemberSince much of the success of this program seems to depend on getting a sufficiently “hard” workout in doing resistance training I need some guidance as to how to define the “hard” in working out. At what intensity should resistance training be done and just how do you measure that intensity. There is a fine line between working very hard and pushing your limits and getting hurt. What is “hard” enough?

Richard SchmittModeratorIt's not that you need a “hard” workout, it's one that you need to have the intensity within that training program. Also it is a strength or body building type program that works for you in your own relative strength. Not one that you have to match with someone next to you for example. Don't have that Crossfit type mentality or mentality in general where you have to feel “beat down” in order to have accomplished a workout. That's not it. You will know if you put effort and focus into your training, if you feel that you can do more right after that session, then you might not have given full effort. If you feel like you did “work”, but not dead then yeah I'd say you gave effort.

Just do sets of 5-10 reps on multipoint exercises. What are you doing now?

OceanrezMemberI am currently doing a three day split of six to eight exercises between 8 and twelve reps, increasing progressive resistance each session ( one more rep or 2-5% increase in weight. I move quickly from exercise to exercise, 30 seconds rest between sets and 1-2 minutes between exercises. I work up a sweat and increase my respiration so I guess that's enough. I am following Ben Pk's MI40X with some modifications for my level of fitness.
