Robert x OlearyParticipantLooking to mix it up with my before bed meals. for over a year its been a shake and a tbs of almond butter per my prep coach's instructions. and it seems CBL kind of leans that wya too (unless I'm missing updates not in the book from 2011 which is highly probable). Looking for some idea's for the CBL vets on their favorite before bed meal, you dont mind sharing. for the last few weeks I've been doing 2 cups of low fat cottage cheese, which is delicious, but getting played out.

David M PopeParticipant+1 milk and cookies. Milk and anything is awesome. Whole chocolate milk and cookies/baklava/pastries is also where it's at. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

I think this is something I'm not quite grasping about the program. I thought I should only be doing carb back loading as post workout meals, not carbs with my before bed. That is unless I'm stuck with the evening training protocol which requires me to have just one meal before bed to backload with. Should I be back loading with my before bed meal? This is something that I am unclear on.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Carbs at night in any meal you feel like having them. I would say most of us have carbs in our last 1-2 meals regardless of training time, though this is easier with evening training.

David M PopeParticipantI suppose it also has to do with total carb intake and how you enjoy spreading that across the evening. For higher intakes it is less comfortable to stuff yourself in one meal. I believe the original CBL ebook called out a 4 hour window eating carbs. That's a good place to start. You can always extend/dial it back depending on how it treats you, your psychological connection with your eating (this one can be a big one), and whether you enjoy having multiple smaller servings of carbs or one large portion (think potatoes + sweets later vs one giant bowl of rice with a glass of milk in one meal).

Oh I see, I thought there was a purpose to the before bed meal being carbless and protien/fat based inorder to "turn off" insulin signalling. I remember hearing that on a podcast that Ben Pakulski hosted, though I'm not sure if it was one that Kiefer was a guest on.

Brandon D ChristParticipantNo, as long as the carbs are high glycemic, they can be eaten before bed.
