If you are going over 1g per lbs total you don't really have negative effects aside from you will probably have less carbs, and less glycogen replenishment which could negatively effect training.
I will include carbs but i tend to overdo it on carbs if I go with sweet carbs. I'm thinking a monster steak and a large potato or a pound of ground beef chili over white rice.. High protein (prob too much) and enough carbs but not overdoing carbs.. That would be after a PWO shake that has 30g carbs or so.
