Jenelle BrewerParticipantBut then I remind myself that my ancient ancestors had no "rules" like this, and their muscles probably survived just fine. 😀 They ate when they could eat, you know? Or when they were hungry.
And their life expectancy was what... 30? 😀Those on the paleo bandwagon usually fail to mention that.
Oh, Mac. My comment had nothing to do with Paleo. And I won't even get into a debate about what was killing people then vs. what is killing people now. ::) We are sicker than we have ever been, and there is no denying that. It doesn't have to have a label of any kind on it for us to look around and see that all of the wild animals don't have to be told what to do and what to eat. They live by their instincts. And that was my point. If I don't eat for 2-3 hours after a workout sometimes, I am pretty sure I am going to live, and that all of my muscles are not going to disappear in that time.

Melvin McLainParticipantLol I know, that's just what came to mind when you mentioned “ancient ancestors.” And I didn't mean to imply you were on that bandwagon either. 😀

Jenelle BrewerParticipantMac, I always tell people “we were Paleo before Paleo was cool”. Lol. I am so thankful that an online friend recommended Robb Wolf's book years ago. That (along with the Eat Like a Dinosaur book) led me to give it a try with our family, which led me to F-I-N-A-L-L-Y feeling good enough to quit smoking... for good this time. We've all been healthier... and we thought we were pretty healthy before. It was on Robb Wolf's podcast that I first heard of Kiefer. If it hadn't been for Paleo, I wouldn't even know he exists, most likely. I am sure I wouldn't be here. I don't like to think where I'd be if I hadn't found Paleo. So, while I understand that Kiefer rants about it (and I understand some of his points), I guess you could say I am on that bandwagon. But for us, it is not about "Paleo" -- brand, dogma, rules. It is about being able to look at the big picture and decipher what makes sense. Were we really meant to eat _______? Or is this one of the things that has led us to ill health? My mind has been opened to consider so many things in our world that I'd never even considered before, thanks to Robb Wolf's podcasts alone. He has some GREAT guests! One of them just happened to be Kiefer. 😉
