Just finished preparation phase.  I have question about CBL meals.  I notice that some people will have Protein/Carb/low fat PWO meal then an hour later have a dessert?  My question is when you have the dessert, do you accompany that with a Protein meal?  The books says accompany every carb laden meal with some sort of protein.  So if I had white rice and chicken, then had ice cream an hour later, would I have protein with the ice cream or eat the ice cream alone?

I would suggest having some ice cream, with a casein shake or milk protein.

Yes it's generally a good idea to accompany carbs with protein, especially desserts which are often hyperpalatable.  Also most of your protein for the day should be consumed in the backload. As Tex said, a protein shake probably goes good with a dessert.  However, I would suggest whey protein as it tends to reduce appetite better than other kinds. If you are having trouble getting calories in I would just ditch the protein shake and have more ice cream.

Thanks for the answers!  I also noticed that everyone is saying to have low fat meals with CBL meals.  This makes sense.  However, In the book Kiefer says not to worry about fat in CBL meals?

Fat matters with respect to your caloric load, but from a nutrient timing perspective it doesn't matter.
