Good morning.  I haven't found this answer to this one yet, but I'm sure that it must be out there somewhere.  I've started StrongLifts 5×5 and CBL-SA, and I understand how I'm supposed to backload after a workout.  But since the “off-days” are every other day for StrongLifts, should I be doing some other lifting (or HIIT) for those off-days, in order to get rid of the extra glycogen stores? Thanks.Caleb

    No. In my opinion. No.

If you do extra lifting, don't do so to “earn your food.”  Mehdi talks about what kind of lifting he suggest on middle-of-the-week non-training days.  He likes barbell complexes done with light weights and pretty much constant movement.  These will be like 5-10 minutes of movement and basically used for conditioning.  If you want to do that, I think it would jive well with his programming as it is something he suggested (granted this was a while back, not sure if he still does).

Okay.  Thank guys.  Is there not any other food/workout magic I should know about here?  When dealing with an every-other-day workout regimen, do people generally JUST down a PWO & carb-backload after the workout, and that's pretty much the basics? Thanks. Caleb

I wait that hour, down the shake, and about 30 seconds to 30 minutes I'll have a dinner that is carb filled (mostly the larger one). Then about an hour or two I'll have the rest of the carbs I need in the second meal.

I'm confused by the question.  What do you mean by "just"?

Well, my question evolved a bit, but is mostly regarding the macronutrient timing with CBL when doing an every-other-day lifting program.  Really just looking for a basic overview. Big Tex covered the back-load day, but on the non-lifting day, do I just do a basic ULC day with no exercise?  My origin concern was that I wasn't utilizing up the extra glycogen stores on the off days.

You're correct, just go ULC on a non-training day.

I am working out with the same split..5x. Stronglifts. I train every other day/late night/ and have max two days off/back to back/, backloading only postW but..I feel already dizzy/depleted and tired once its time for next training. Probably my supplementation is our or don’t get enough fats. But few days a go I read an artical by Kiefer where he advises to backload ONLY on the days BEFORE working out days but NOT POST W..I got confused, but I’ll try it..maybe it’ll help with the lack of energy and dizzibes. Btw I in CBL for the last 7-8 days

“I feel already dizzy/depleted and tired once its time for next training” You may have to backload before and after. If that doesn’t work you need more rest. ei: another day off or less intensity and/or less volume.

As far as I understand, you would want to carb back load on training evenings.

Some might suggest to carb back load on days before training so that your glucose stores would be filled on the actual day, but the insulin spikes are anabolic and stimulate muscle growth, so I think it would be most beneficial to eat carbs after training.

Also I’ve been lifting on a MondayxWednesdayxFriday with CBL done on training evenings, and I haven’t felt tired or depleted at any trainings, in fact I feel more energetic than I did on pure carbs. I don’t even feel depleted going from Friday-Monday with two days of no carbs. So my advice is don’t worry about it.
