KapriceMemberCan anyone explain the Lo-Carb Calories column in Appendix IX?Is that the number of calories we should shoot for pre-workout? It seems awfully low.

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorI'd have to check, but I think those appendix charts are all the minimum amounts, I'm not 100% sure on it, but about 90% sure.

Richard SchmittModeratorWhat program are you trying to do? Strength Accumulation or Density Bulking? A lot of that is something to shoot for, but during the ULC Portion of the Day you would eat to hunger and also eat 1:1 in protein and fat in grams.

KapriceMemberSorry. I'm on the SA. But, I'm not the ideal candidate for CBL since I'm closer to 40%BF. But, I really want to see what kind of results I can get on CBL. I need to lose about 60 pounds. So, for my target weight (long term), that column shows 810 calories, so surely that can't be a target number of calories for the day.

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorThis isn't a calorie counting program, don't worry about counting calories.Just follow the plan, track carbs during ULC and backload so you know your sweet spot and let the program do it's thing.

KapriceMemberThanks for your answers, Trevor. I'm just curious why he put a calorie column in his tables if it's not something we need to consider in CBL?

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorMy guess, to humor people who can't let the “a calorie is a calorie” idea go.And for the crazy people that track every thing for fun (Yeah, that's me)

KapriceMemberI think I found the answer:
The following tables will help you assess baseline fat and protein needs for the low-carb portion of the day when Carb BackLoading.
So, if I'm reading that correctly, I'm supposed to keep my calories to around 810 in the low-carb, pre-workout portion. During that same portion, I'm also supposed to get from 85 to 152 grams of protein in, while keeping fat around 37 grams. Then, I get just play around with the Post Workout, as long as I get from 54 to 97 grams of additional protein PWO.Have I misunderstood any of that?

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorYes, a bit of a misunderstanding. It's confusing. Those are the minimum amounts to eat.Eat a decent amount of protein during ULC and match 1:1 by gram with fat.

Hah!Actually, I HATE tracking stuff. I've never counted calories before. But, I've read such a wide range of experiences from people trying CBL. Some great successes and some miserable failures. I suspect the failures aren't doing it right, so I feel like it's important to really understand it in the beginning. Then I'll stop tracking, again.

Got it. Thanks again, Trevor!

jpmanzGuestSorry if I come off sounding dense (I really did read the whole thread), but the recommendation for a 1:1 ratio of fat to protein isn't found in the book anywhere, so what gives? Throwback to Anabolic Diet ratios for calories (65% fat, 35% protein)? ???
