Craig jonesParticipantMy girl friend can't seem to lose weight. She is one of them unfortunate people that looks at a chocolate bar and puts 5ld on. She used to be able to drop the weight just as easy by doing very ridiculously strict diets of really low calories but now even after trying cns she didn't even lose a ld in the orientation phase and the following days after carb nite put 3 or 4 ld on. The problem got so serious the doctor sent her for thyroid tests which came back negative.I now fear she has seriously affected her metabolism by yo yo dieting as kiefer suggests in a pod cast I heard. Is there anyway to get your metabolism back on track?I know thyroid affects metabolism but blood work came back normal. She should have lost weight in orientation from water at least but nothing. She is starting cns again this week. Any other suggestions?I thought she may want to consume more fats as this is one area she didn't put too much emphasis on while on cns.She is desperate now and becoming very depressed.

Brandon D ChristParticipantI don't know if anyone on here can help if what you think is the problem actually is. If you can, post her diet and exercise program (if she does exercise).

Craig jonesParticipantThe only part in the diet I think she maybe went overboard on is the cheese, so no dairy this time round .but other diets she has done consisted of 800 calories and still didn't lose a ld where she used to lose unhealthy amounts of weight using those methods. She does no excersise because of a serious back complaint.

Damon AmatoParticipantStress can and will halt progress. Could be the problem or at least part of it.

Tell her to ask a doctor about doing some sort of resitance exercising. Though she has back issues (lots of people do) she still might be able to do something. Resistance training can do wonders for a person's metabolism. Walking is very good too.

Craig jonesParticipantCheers buddy the walking sounds good but 2 major back operations definitely put resistance traing out of the question, to be honest even walking she finds painful. She does have the no pain no gain attitude though, very determined.

DreamCrusherMemberHow long has she been on the diet?

Lasse ElsbakParticipantAre you sure she was under 30g carbs? You can get in a lot from incidentals if you're not careful..

Cheese should be OK -- it is fat and protein (perfect for CNS). I am an extreme endomorph (metabolically), so I hold fat and water ridiculously. I am also a vegetarian, so no meat... yet, I do CNS.Full-fat cheeses, 1% cottage cheese, whole eggs and whey isolate are my primary protein sources. I use coconut oil, heavy whipping cream, and vegetarian omega 3-6-9 oils for primary fats. Start by keeping her fats at 50/50 with protein, and adjust from their, but don't go below 70/30 (protein/fat).Also, get her bodyfat % measured (as accurately as possible / affordable). Find her lean bodyweight. Ensure that her caloric intake is BELOW maintenance. I know Keifer does not recommend counting calories, but in cases like my own -- when I was eating at or slightly above maintenance, even with LOW carbs, I simply stalled, and my weight maintained. Now, my fat is 130g a day (~30%), my protein is 220g a day (~70%), and my cals are at about 12x my lean bodyweight. Fat loss has begun again, in full swing. So, in rehash... play with the macros, play with the calories, and ensure she gets adequate resistance training ea. week (3-4 days), with possibly 1 day of HIIT (for 30 minutes) AFTER a Carb Nite. Also, ensure she fasts for 12 hours from finishing her final meal of the day. So... if she finishes dinner at 11:30pm, and she wakes by 9am the next day, have her throw back 16oz of black coffee, and then hold off her first meal until around 11:30am.

I agree with this!Make sure you are counting the carbs, plus fiber, and properly calculating useable carbs.Keifer recommends 30g or less, of useable carbs, per day, for the 6 regular days a week. The only time this rule is forfeit is on Carb Nite, after 4-5pm... when the REAL feeding begins!

ffemtmcdGuestAlso – at 800 cal / day your body is going to switch to starvation mode making it harder to lose
