AciDMember1: Am J Clin Nutr. 2003 Jun;77(6):1442-7. Related Articles, Links Effect of chewing gum containing nicotine and caffeine on energy expenditure and substrate utilization in men.Jessen AB, Toubro S, Astrup A.Department of Human Nutrition, Centre for Advanced Food Studies, The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, Frederiksberg, Denmark.BACKGROUND: Nicotine replacement therapy limits weight gain after smoking cessation. This finding is partly attributable to the thermogenic effect of nicotine, which may be enhanced by caffeine. OBJECTIVE: We assessed the acute thermogenic effects of chewing gum containing different doses of nicotine and caffeine. DESIGN: This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study included 12 healthy, normal-weight men (aged 18-45 y). Energy expenditure was measured with indirect calorimetry before and 2.5 h after subjects chewed each of 7 different types of gum containing the following doses of nicotine/caffeine: 0/0, 1/0, 2/0, 1/50, 2/50, 1/100, and 2/100 mg/mg. RESULTS: The thermogenic responses (increases over the response to placebo) were 3.7%, 4.9%, 7.9%, 6.3%, 8.5%, and 9.8%, respectively, for the gums containing 1/0, 2/0, 1/50, 2/50, 1/100, and 2/100 mg nicotine/mg caffeine (P < 0.05 for all). Adding caffeine to 1 and 2 mg nicotine significantly enhanced the thermogenic response, but changing the caffeine dose (from 50 to 100 mg) did not change the thermogenic effect. None of the combinations changed the respiratory quotient compared with placebo, which indicates that glucose and fat oxidation rates were increased to a similar extent. Side effects occurred only with 2 mg nicotine. CONCLUSIONS: One milligram of nicotine has a pronounced thermogenic effect, which can be increased by approximately 100% by adding 100 mg caffeine. Increasing the nicotine dose to 2 mg does not increase the thermogenic effect but produces side effects in most subjects. Caffeine may be useful in preventing weight gain after smoking cessation if its thermogenic effect can be used to enhance nicotine's effect on long-term energy balance.Publication Types: Clinical Trial Randomized Controlled Trial

MaccaParticipantcan you guys not get 1.3 DMAA over in the States then? It's easy to get hold of over here (UK) - You can easily get the raw product (dosing can be a problem here as only tiny amounts are required) or ready made up pills.I have a stack of 25mg 1.3 DMAA / 100mg caffine pills in my gym bag, I think they cost about £15 ($26) for 250....

The stupid FDA has banned it here in the states.

Jeffrey HansenParticipantI cannot find it. Amazon sellers seem to say no stock. I would guess it is still available for pets, or as a painting addition or something. In the states labeling is crazy, for years they could not sell Stevia as a sweetener, it was labeled something else (forget what)

Evan PetersonMemberI still have Jack3d and other products with DMAA in stock at the store… we were told by our supplier that it isn't banned YET, but the FDA put the companies that don't disclose how much is inside on notice. “truth in labeling.”http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm302133.htm

TomahawkMemberI know this thread is about Jack3d, but has anyone tried Craze by Driven Sports? Obviously not as well known as Jack3d, but still quite popular.

bbuchanMemberSo as far as the nicotine study goes it seems that the study posted here suggests 1mg of nicotine along with 100mg of caffein every 3 hrs? And this will produce approximately a 10% increase in thermogenesis? I'm game to try it

unrxpodcastGuestThe ace-k in Jack3d pre-workout isn't a problem. It's a minor amount that won't affect your fat burning or ketogenesis if taken pre workout. And I'm actually a big fan of DMAE, the reason Jack3d was almost banned in the first place.
Thanks Kiefer for the reply.
