I saw Keifer would drink coffee before he works out. I was wondering do typical pre workouts like c4 effect insulin spike and thats why he drinks coffee?

Depends on the ingredients. Like Ace-K

And the dreaded Ace K gets everywhere so make sure you check!

Most stuff have Ace-K and some have carbs too. It depends what your goal is. An insulin spike preworkout isn't the worst thing in the world if you are trying to build muscle and not as concerned about fat loss. I take noxplode and it has ace-k and some carbs

If you really want a pre-workout I'd go with this2 cups of coffee, 5g creatine, 10g whey, maybe some mct oil and a hefty dose of metal

Actually Kiefer has stated (multiple times now) that pre workout is a time to get caffeine however you want:pills, coffee even energy drinks with ace K at this point! So all you are really trying to avoid here is carbs

what about 1-3 eggs and 12 grams of coconut milk fat in coffee (which is 100ml coconut milk) as preworkout meal. The egg dosage (+ the additional MCTs) isnt high enough to spike insulin, or?

I was using Craze from DS which does list Ace-K pretty far down the list of ingredients for 3 weeks on CNS.  This is about the only 'supplement' I use that is not derived from a purely natural source (animal, plant, extract, etc.) as I generally try to steer clear of chemically-derived ingestiblesThen I caught the Ace-K phobia and totally eliminated it from the diet (the totality of which was the Craze and 1 diet soda per day - another vice) for 3 weeks, switching to straight, black coffee for my a.m. fasted ShockWave workouts and yet another 20oz. serving of water for the soda. What happened?  No difference.  My BF and overall weight are trending exactly as they were with the Ace-K.  What is the half-life of Ace-K, anyway?  Is there a wash-out period? So my mind is not made up in terms of Ace-K, especially in light of this personal experience (not scientific, I know) as well as the infamous (blasphemous?) Propane fitness post...  http://propanefitness.com/does-acesulfame-k-spike-insulin/My other question on this topic, is: is it a matter of degree of success or an all-or-nothing/pass-fail prospect with respect to the Ace-K?  Because that will surely help with the decision-making process for a lot of us.  Finally, I wonder exactly how much Ace-K is in the unaccounted for 0.94g (940mg) of material in 2 scoops (10.6g total) of DS Craze when the constituent ingredients of that 'unaccounted for' material read (in order) as follows:Citric AcidMalic AcidNatural & Artificial FlavorsSucraloseAcesulfame PotassiumFD&C Red #40FD&C Blue #1 In the end, we all make our own decisions and live with the results and should 'own it.'  I think (and I do not claim it true beyond a reasonable doubt nor can I produce citations of studies to back the theory) that the stress and anguish we put ourselves through over either avoiding or keeping something of this minitude in the rotation pretty much negates the benefit of the action in so many cases we wind up with a net zero effect.  Watch, Kiefer probably delivered irrefutable evidence - one way or another - in today's podcast (that I have to wait to hear in replay because I am at work) rendering this is all moot...

The only difference for me would be the 2 Cups of Coffee. 1 Coffee for me but I add 1x1500mg of liquid L-Carnintine from a Tbsp pre and post (bracketing)Don't forget to add your metal, like Metallica or Slayer!  😛
