dhcblGuestIs Rice Chex really good for this diet?The first ingredient is whole grain rice. I thought we wanted to avoid whole grain stuff?http://generalmills.com/ColorBoxImage.aspx?ImageId={D1096771-4BF8-48C6-A169-F3663644CBD7}
I have noticed that. Certain brands use whole grain flour others don't. Lucklily for me, the local grocery store's generic brand uses white rice flour and no hydrogenated oils. This means cheap quality carb source!
So would chex rice not be the best choicesince whole grain rice is listed as the first ingredent?

Richard SchmittModeratorWhat is the brand you're getting? I've get Great Value and never noticed that on there. And to answer that, whole grain isn't really ideal to have in a cereal for a backload. I've got recipes to make a gluten free cinnamon toast cereal and others. I just have to find a substitute for "whole grain teff"?

The standard General Mills Rice Chex plain flavor.

You what's sad? There was a time when I was a child when Ithought eating cereal like this for breakfast was perfectly healthy. But bacon and eggs, oh no! Bless my parents, but they really did not know proper nutrition.

Richard SchmittModeratorYeah I completely understand. I try to tell the same thing to my family but old habits die hard and that whole routine breakfast meal. I even tried convincing my family, especially my Dad, to just eat bacon, sausage, and eggs for breakfast instead of cereals, pop tarts, French toast, potatoes, etc. That'll it be better and have those food items for a dinner or a dessert. Hasn't sunk in yet.

KenSanderParticipantWanting to change up my cereal with some junk ones. I'm doing DB and eat clean for the most part – rice, potatoes etc –but I want to add the odd junk thing.Live in Canada so having some problems getting certain ones. Is whole grain corn okay? Ideally I'm going to try and avoid wheat in the cereal, so corn or rice is best. From reading, whole grain corn is just the term before it's processed. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-whole-grain-corn.htmJust the term 'whole grain' threw me off as we avoid that with this diet so I want to be clear.

Richard SchmittModeratorWhole Grain is okay with a rice or corn based product, you're wanting to avoid whole wheat normally.

KenSanderParticipantOh I had no idea it was okay for rice as well. I assumed it was fine for corn because corn is corn and it's just the processed name but didn't think it applied to rice.Thanks!
