morphjkParticipantI’ve never liked having my protein in water so I am wondering if there is any harm in having some milk in my PWO shake?

Penny DannerParticipantMany use almond milk…..or drink it fast in water. 🙂 It isn’t supposed to be a treat anyway. 🙂
Cow milk won’t work for CN and I’m not sure about CBL.

morphjkParticipantWater it is then

Richard SchmittModerator^^^ Yep. Milk would be okay to get in extra calories if needed for a bulk but unsweetened almond milk would be best.

morphjkParticipantNot bulking at this stage as I’ve still got plenty to lose. So I’ll either go with water or the almond milk

DerekcervaParticipantLittle late but you could try fairlife skim milk
lactose free 12g protein 6g carb i believeactually pretty good to get some more protein 😀

mi2kGuestwait… Milk on CBL would be ideal if taken after a workout late in the day, no?
Milk is a highly insulinogenic protein source… What is the problem?July 10, 2015 at 7:45 am #391123
Marius Andre LundbergParticipantI think I’ve heard Kiefer say that milk can enhances the insulin response, and it’s a good protein source as well.
I’ve also heard him say to use a little milk i the post-workout shake on a ULC day on CN, if training hard.It is the dose that is the poison

Makoto TomizawaParticipantIf it’s for a PWO shake I don’t see any problem. You want the insulin spike after lifting, ULC or not. Lactose shouldn’t be an issue, since, even if it’s ULC, if you’re using Carb Shock, that’s got 15 grams of carbs, not to mention it gives an insulin spike. I never used almond milk, it’s a small amount and not a big deal, but I’d rather avoid any unnecessary fat. My $0.02.

BrianGuestIn CBL, all the shakes have values for whichever type of protein (hydrolysates, intact, and isolates) in grams. I’ve done it for a long time as say, 10 grams of protein, rather than weighing 10g of the powder which will give different values depending on which type of protein you are using. I recently saw someone weighing the 10 grams of powder instead. I just wanted to clarify if I’m doing the right thing by figuring out what fraction of a scoop is 10 grams of protein or should I now weigh the powder..Think this may be a stupid question but just making sure

Marius Andre LundbergParticipantIt’s like you say that 10g of whey isn’t 10g of protein. I usually shoot for half a scoop of my whey iso powder pre workout when I’m trying to lean down. I think as long as you are getting 10-15g it dosn’t matter. But for the A.M accelerator shake first thing in the morning, it might be important to not go over 10g of protein from powder. First thing in the morning I only use whey iso if muscle building is my #1 goal. And of course use whey iso in the ULC-part of the day.
It is the dose that is the poison

Makoto TomizawaParticipantIn all honesty, unless you absolutely cannot function without the shakes, skip them because you don’t need them, at least for fat loss. Either that or eat real food.
If bulking, and you can’t eat that much food to meet your daily requirements, then shakes would be fine.
To answer the “how much protein” question, you could just divide up the serving size to get the protein amount. Or you could just play it safe and use 10 g of powder. Either way, keep in mind that you want to be using as pure/no or low carb of whey isolate as possible.Training Log: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vuwHRdBaPVILxxLhXly_N1Ys66Hcwk4j-bM7nvKSLrI/edit?usp=sharing
