MikeParticipantHey, what do you think I should do, when I have my upper body training (Chest/Shoulders) right before my evening football practice? It looks something like that:6.00-7.20 - Upper Body8.00-10.00 - FootballSo I have 40 minute gap between practices. Should I load carbs right away, let's say drink a lot of liquid carbo right after the gym (150-200g?) and then after football, backload with solid food? I would rather avoid practicing with my stomach full. Although I guess I could eat a pack of sweet rice...What do you guys think is the best option?Should I backload more carbs on that day just because of the additional football practice?

pshannonMemberI think your in a prime position for the intra-workout shake. Make a shake w/ carbs and protein to sip on during your training. Then have a PWO shake 10-30 min after your done training, then go to practice. If you have trouble eating a lot after practice maybe add in a pre workout meal.

MikeParticipantThanks for advice!I have no problem eating after practice, so pre-workout won't be necessary. And what about the total amount of carbs in the evening? Should it be higher because of the football practice or should I just stick to my regular amount?

Richard SchmittModeratorYou would base it on how you feel. If you need a good amount of food/carbs after practice by all means enjoy yourself and get energy back for the next day. Pretty much depleting yourself with lifting then practice afterwards. If you can afford it too, add dextrose to your foods to get a higher amount of good carbs in. Good luck and kick some ass this season.

Brandon D ChristParticipantI would be concerned about adding 200 g of high GI carbs. You could possibly go hypoglycemic when it's time to practice, which wouldn't be good. I honestly don't know what to reccomend, since this is out of protocol.

Ya honestly this is kind of ehh. Kind of hard to prepare. Does the weight training HAVE to be at that time? My guess would be 50 grams of whey isolate and then carb up after practice.

earlyriserMemberNot sure if this fits in with DH protocols but if that was me I would take some coconut milk and whey together immediately PWO then smash the carbs after practice.

From personal experience it just depends how much I have. A whole can of coconut milk is probably a bad idea. Experiment and see if it works for you and how much.

The thing is, we don't want to spike insulin with MCTs. If we go this route, cream would be a better option. To the original poster, I think the official CBL protocol by the book would be to have the standard post-workout shake of 30 g of carbs and as much protein as you want. If you backload big the night before I would imagine you would still have enough energy to complete practice. If you feel sluggish, then I suppose you could add more carbs to the post-workout shake.
