CrossFit Modifications

    Hi, sorry if this question has already been posted/answered, but I was looking for more information on whether modifications are needed when doing CrossFit workouts.
    The searches I have done in this forum have a few people saying that CBL doesn’t work with CF and I know that this is mentioned in the book, but then also on this site, is an article written by a CF coach who is a part of this team who says that it can definitely work.

    So my question is, are modifications required if you train this way?

    I’m not sure if I am reading this right, but I think from the article it is saying:
    – regardless of what time you train, eat your carbs at night (so no post training carbs at all if you train in the morning)
    – carb load based on the next day. So even if I train this evening, if I plan to have a rest day tomorrow, then stick to low carb. On the flip side, if today was a rest day and I was going to train tomorrow evening, then I would carb backload tonight

    Carb Back-loading definitely works with crossfit, however it’s going to depend on how experienced/advanced you are, your total training volume, and what type of workout it is. If advanced and using a high volume of training i’d suggest Back-Loading just about every night and making sure you’re nice and stocked full of glycogen for the next days workout. I’d also suggest not delaying post-workout nutrition as it’s a lot easier to refuel that way to ensure optimal performance.

    If you’re a beginner and still learning the lifts, you’re probably getting most of your workout from the conditioning aspect. That’s when things get fuzzy. Post-Workout nutrition is less important and you won’t tolerate such a high carb load. Still it’s wise not to go into a session depleted, as you’ll need the brainpower to stay motivated to learn.

    Thank you Tony, that’s super helpful! I’ve been CF’ing for close to two years although I only train 3 – 4 days per week. Would you say to follow the CBL guide as it stands, and CBL just on the nights that I train? Or CBL more for the following day, in other words, CBL only if I am going to train the following day regardless of if I trained that day. My training days are mostly at 5.30pm if that helps.
