The current forum knowledge seems to be suggesting that if fat burning is your primary focus, then you should omit the Isolate during the 'fasting' period, but again this has not come from Keifer and has no real basis (as far as I can tell) – MCT/Coconut oil and WPI is basically the am accelerator shake and Keifer has said that the 10g of Isolate is not enough to provoke any signifcant insulin response which would interfere with fat burning.

I'm pretty sure his stems from Naomi. Kiefer was very busy in the beginning, and didn't visit the forums much, so a lot of info like this came from her.

Both protocols definitely have their applications.I've never head of someone gaining fat while using leangains, although you can't pile down icecream on leangains. Its nice to have a few days of gorging out on carbs using CBL. It also helps you build muscle so its not just mindless craving.I think leangains is a little more religious about not breaking the fast (limiting the number of calories).I think Kiefer thinks it doesn't matter (in terms of calories) but more in insulin response. Pure fat isn't going to cause much of a response (like heavy cream) but if you were eating something that significantly spiked insulin Kiefer would consider that to "break the fast" AFAIK.On the safe side don't do it. On the less strict side just avoid anything with an insulin response. There both like fasting (in the same way the Ketogenic diet is similar to fasting).

I tried leaning down with it, but it didn't fit with me. definelty makes it harder to gain though. When I was already lean it worked much better for me.

Some of the best results I have seen are from "Skinny fat" people. You can tell they have a great deal of muscle but have a thin layer of fat hiding it.IF removes that thin layer and they come out looking jacked. Although they probably haven't gained any muscle, they probably just maintained muscle while dieting (which is still very impressive). Leangains takes you from being regular lean to freakishly lean (single digit bodyfat %).As far as gains go you shouldn't expect any unless you are a novice trainer. Novices always build muscle the quickest and get the best results (over a short time span). Too bad this effect doesn't last forever 🙁The really high calorie days and insulin signaling of back-loading definitely helps you pack on some muscle.

This is the opposite of skinny fat. Skinny fat people may look thin with clothes on, or have a low bodyweight, but have no appreciable muscle mass and therefore still looks fat or flabby. Everything is just soft.I see it quite often at school (engineering college). Loads of people with programmer arms, chicken legs and a double chin.

Skinny fat is the worst, THE WORST. Well maybe not compared to morbid obesity, but you know what im sayin.
