I just had the fourth massage of my life. The last one I had was over ten years ago. My girlfriend insisted. The masseuse said that I had all kinds of problems from lifting weights and running–I was out of alignment, one leg was longer than the other, I had lactic acid knots, my shoulders were uneven, my feet are the window to my body, etc. And that going to a Chiropractor for a realignment would magically solve all these problems I did not know that I had. My gf thinks need to continue massage and should go see a Chiropractor. I have always been suspect of this type of stuff. Anyone had good or bad experiences they could share?

Massage over chiro, I went to both for over a year after my car accident  and there isn't much a chiro will do you can't do on your own with a tennis ball/balance ball and some time on YouTube. Massage on the other hand can definitely be beneficial, if you think you can handle it get a sports massage, I almost puked my first time now get one once every six weeks or so with a few days off from the gym, feel like a new person after the soreness goes away!

Just wanted to chime in, I get a deep tissue massage once a month. It helps me with range of motion and sore spots. Hope it helps.

I get adjusted once or twice a month and massage 2-3 times a month. Since I started doing both I've been feeling better than just getting deep tissue massage before.

From having spent the last 3-4 years going to chiros, osteos, physios and massage therapists, I'd say the most beneficial treatments have been: deep tissue massage, active release technique and Graston technique. These treatments are expensive and cost can be an issue, sometimes even with insurance (if you have it), but if you find a type that helps, I'd suggest go with it whenever you can.I also found that things I can do myself, like foam rolling or using a tennis ball on sore spots, have helped and reduced the need to pay for these treatments. Good luck.

Was always the guy who said “Massages are gay.  Leave them for women.”  Well, after going to my PT for the last 2 months, my body hasn't felt better.  She works mostly on my upper body.  I go to the chiro about once a month for my lower back/hips, and his kid just got done with school as well.  Him and his girlfriend specialized in sports rehab, so going to have them do some ART/Graston on me as well. The biggest thing that helped me is attacking my muscles with my Rumble Roller, Monster stick, baseball, and hex bolt every other day.

I see my chiro every two weeks and a massage therapist every month or so.  They serve different purposes but as far as I'm concerned both are necessary.

I am a massage therapist so I might be a bit bias.I think about 75% of MT's and chiros are about worthless, I know so many massage therapist that have hardly any knowledge of the body. Most of them just learn the stuff long enough to pass a test and stop caring. For Chiro's I've met so many that do the same thing rather it's working or not and blame the patient if no progress is achieved. If you can find a good one they will become your best friend. When I keep up with getting worked on my a MT who knows some good deep tissue work (ART, myofacial) and get adjusted regularly I feel so much better and a perform on another level.

Right now with my current insurance it is worth it. I can go twice a month and get both done at the same time. I notice a difference with adjustments. First went when I pinched nerves in my neck to the point I couldnt turn my head.

For me, a combination of the 2 is essential; not only for gym performance but for overall well being. I also add in foam rolling, stretching and LAX ball for daily manipulation. I have a myriad of cumulative use/abuse injuries (particularly in my neck, back and hips), and manipulation keeps me getting out of bed in the morning.
