Fairy,  With the emWave do you actually monitory yourself every morning to guage where you are at from a stress standpoint?  I know Joel Jamison's HRV comes with a long winded book explaining exactly how and why it monitors certain things.  It really helps you develop your own system.

I don't use it daily ATM… But I really should! It would be easy to note down how many points I scored in 20 min for example. I'm kinda skeptical about a device giving you feedback on your HRV instantaneously because your HRV can literally change just depending on what you're thinking about or how you're feeling emotionally.

I push myself too hard through training too much and too often so I recently purchased the ithlete HRV to help me with overtraining.  I have had a lot of troubles syncing the ithlete HRV ECG Receiver to my iPhone through the Polar Wearlink.  Also, the ithlete HRV app is very basic.  I am so tired of dealing with the ithlete HRV ECG Receiver so today I ordered the BioForce HRV.  Hopefully, I will have more success with the BioForce HRV.

You are supposed to take it immediately upon waking each day and it also measures it over a period of 2 and a half minutes.  Also the variations in HRV that you are referring to are probably insignificant compared to trainings effects on HRV.  Training as you probably know, literally changes your resting heart rate for potentially days.  Just my hypothesis, but it might not be a bad question to ask Joel.  Shoot him an email sometime. You get an excellent book with the BioForce.  Joel is one of the top experts in the world of HRV and energy systems.

Oh yeah. I'm sure it's a reasonable indication, it's just good to note that your emotional state really will influence your HRV significantly. Which is of course really interesting because that implies that your emotional state also influences your ability to train – which of course is common sense, but at the same time it's often overlooked when planning training.

I think the EmWave and BioForce use similar technologies but are intended for different purposes.I got this from the emWave website:"Used just a few minutes a day, this simple-to-use technology helps you transform feelings of anger, anxiety or frustration into more peace, ease and clarity."This really isn't the purpose of the BioForce.  You wake up, put the HR strap in, and get your score.  This will tell you if you are ready to train and develop a sound training plan.  There is a lot more science Joel dives into but for the most part this is how you use it.Not saying the EmWave isn't useful (I'm sure it is) but I think we are just talking about different things so I wanted to avoid any confusion for people reading this.

I ordered mine.. hope my DH peeps didn't steer me wrong!  😉  Admit I love all this fitness junk anyway and life is short.  So whatever.  I've lost more money on a shit stock that brought me nothing (not even a dividend) so I'm good.Plus, 60 day money back.. that's plenty of time to evaluate this to see if it's worth it.

Just ordered one of these today – I've been struggling with training and overall feeling good and rested, so I'm hoping this will be a good method to actually see if recovery techniques are working for me or not. For those of you that have it, do you have the Polar HR monitor? I have a Garmin GPS watch for running and I'm not sure if the HR strap for that will work or not. If not, I'll just grab a Polar strap.
