Eric ShawMemberIf one is doing CBL-DB on some low carb days where no training takes place, would it be ok or even beneficial to include some low GI carbs like brown rice or lentils with late evening meals? If for nothing else but to add some variety, but also to add some carbs/calories but since there is no training I'm thinking it would better to avoid the High GI carbs since they are more likely to get stored as fat due to less absorption in the muscle from lack of training that day. Here is an example,Train 3 days a week, M-W-FSaturday, ULC daySunday, light carb intake with slow/low GI carbs with dinner, i.e. 50-100 grams brown rice or lentilsMonday, train, then backload with Hi Gi carbsTuesday, light carb intake with slow/low GI carbs with dinner, i.e. 50-100 grams brown rice or lentilsWednesday, train, then backload with Hi GI carbsThursday, repeat of TuesdayFriday, repeat of Wednesday. Also note that on non-training days wheter ULC or light low-GI carb, I would eat at roughly maintenaince, on Training days I would aim for 10%+ maint. My thinking is based on several ideas that may be right or wrong, first if Doing DB we are going for lean mass gains with zero fat gains. So eating carbs throughout the week helps the muscles continue to repair and build, secondly my thinking is by eating the slow carbs in small amounts, on NT days it helps prevent the likelihood of fat storage because they cause a slower insulin release, but still allow the muscles to have fuel repair and grow.Another thing that gives me an idea about this, is the fact that for quite some time I was on a very high carb diet of 65% carbs, with around 10% fats and 25% protein. During this time I was eating at my maintainance calories and didn't gain one pound of fat for over 3 months. I was consuming over 400-500grams of carbs a day and I only weighed 185 at 18% bodyfat. But the kind of carbs I was consuming were things like legumes, brown rice, whole whea pita bread, wheatberry protein bread etc. and lots of veggies, but most of the carbs were from the starches not the veggies. I wanted to run this experiment to see if in fact I could consume a ton of carbs and not get fat, which I proved I could. So I'm wondering if this might allow you to consume carbs as stated above on CBL and avoid fat storage but still give the body ample fuel?

Richard SchmittModeratorNo. Since you've been around for a while you should already know the answer to your question. Low GI is not ideal for what we are trying to do and I'm sure what you're trying to do. If you want oatmeal or something like that then have sugared instant oatmeal and have it with a high glycemic carb. I didn't read the rest of your post just the title and first paragraph. I know that's wrong but I'm being honest and you should already know.
