I subscribe to mark bells magazine and every issue has an article on backloading written by Kiefer. Most of the powerlifters on his team use CBL so I say that he knows better than most and probably prefers a lower bodyfat because the larger the dieter the more drastic the physique change.  Mark bell is all about gear lifting and a problem with going down several sizes is finding new suits breaking them in before a meet and the change in leverages when performing those lifts.  I'm sure for normal raw lifters not as a big concern.

If you are 5'10 and 278 CBL Is not an option. I'm 5'10 and i'm 190 and I'm considering switching back to low-carb/CNS.People say bodfat % is what matters.I think the truth of the matter is that LBM matters. LBM is related to body fat %.If you eat a ton of carbs and you have no muscles to "soak them up", it all goes to fat stores. The whole idea of CBL is to feed your muscles the carbs you are taking up. If you have no muscles to feed you just create more fat.Muscular people tender to be leaner in general... and this is no coincidence.I would stick to CNS.

THIS +1. Kiefer has said this himself many times!!!!!If you are jacked, go ahead and have pizza, donuts, what you want (I even believe that, without mentioning it, he does NOT mean "Have pizza every day"), but if you are FAT, you should better backload more conservatively, sweet potatoes and a little ice cream, or one donut and not a dozen, rest of carbs from rice, sweet potatoes and other "clean" carb sources.

Unless of course you're 5'10" 278 lbs and lean! Then you should probably just keep on being awesome - and huge.

Yes this probably is a more accurate way of saying it.  However I think Carb Nite would still be better for people at higher body fat percentages regardless of muscle mass because it is faster, but they should be able to do CBL no problem.  Though body fat percentage certainly does matter, as insulin sensitivity decreases the fatter you get, even if you have a lot of muscle mass.

It's actually a lot of other things that change when you are fat. Lower testosterone, higher estrogen, lower insulin sensitivity, lower thyroid hormones and so on and so on... CBL is a performance diet for serious lifters/bodybuilders, and NOT for fat people that are happy that they can eat what they want while training half-assed. That is how I see it at least.
