sarah_h88Memberso i did my workout thursday night, followed by friday morning HIIT and core work. it's now sunday and the pain in the areas i worked thursday night is just starting to be felt, plus my abs are killing. is it abnormal or a sign that something's wrong having DOMS from thursday night on sunday?

Jas0nGuestA little hard to tell without having more information on hand but I suggest you take a close look at your sleeping pattern/quality as well as protein intake.

sarah_h88Membersince switching to CBL, i have less protein than before, but now it matches my body weight in grams so i think it's better and less excessive, and i've also drastically upped my saturated fats.i haven't been sleeping too great lately, so perhaps that was the culprit. usually i don't get DOMS, but when i do they seem to be a little less than 72 hours after. just seems a bit late to me, and am hoping it's not an indicator of a health issue or nervous system recovery problem. i'll definitely keep and eye on it. thanks for your reply 🙂

Brandon D ChristParticipantI'll probably get blasted for saying this, but in my own lifting experience, DOMS = muscle growth. You probably had an awesome workout. This past summer I made huge gains in my glutes and hamstrings. They were sore every day except the day I worked them out, so it was essentially DOMS everyday for two months. Maybe it's because of my bodybuilding origin, but I LOVE the feeling of DOMS.

I tend to agree, I've had the same experience in the last few months with my glutes being sore daily but very noticeably growing. If nothing else, I find that DOMS can indicate you were able to properly activate and work the desired muscle group.

awesome 🙂i don't mind it at all either if it means i'm growing and doing something right! i did have a great workout actually, i'm just wondering why it seemed extra delayed. but the pain is no problem if it means gains 😀

Sometimes I don't feel DOMS until two days after I work the muscle. It's weird, but normal.

RoadblockParticipantTiming of DOMS onset also depends on the severity of the damage. As was said earlier, maybe you had a great workout. The damage that causes DOMS is when the actin is torn from the myosin within the muscle. Might take a couple of days for the satellite cells to replicate and bond to the muscle cell. Here is a link to an explanation of the process if anyone is interested.http://www.unm.edu/~lkravitz/Article%20folder/musclesgrowLK.htmlShould be pretty common knowledge, but you never know. The harder the workout, the more damage done, and the longer the repair takes.RB

That's the way I always am... if I get DOMS it's not till almost two days later. Muscle soreness has so many factors, I like you might get blasted for this but I totally think this is an area the more that we think we know, the more we don't. Study x says too much lactic acid, study y says over training, study r says it's due to growth and stimulation... blah... eat train sleep, it's all we can do
