Mimi1978KeymasterI just wondered if anyone takes L-Arginin (HCL) for a better pump before workout. Not sure if this amino effects the insulin level.

Does not effect insulin, but it is not as good as Citrulline Malate.Citrulline converts to Arginine in the body. You may ask: "Then, why not just take Arginine?"Arginine is mostly destroyed by the body before it can do any good. Citrulline bypasses these destructive bodily mechanisms, and converts to Arginine at a more preferable time for absorption.Give up on Arginine, and go with 3g of Citrulline Malate + some table salt. You will get pumped and vascular! 🙂Cory

Mimi1978GuestThanks Cory. I heard about Citrulline before but wasnt sure what that is. Nobody really talks about it. Why should I take it with salt? Because of the taste?I will give it a try 🙂

Welcome. 🙂Citrulline Malate is more expensive, but more effective @ a lower dose. Only 3g to obtain a solid pump, as opposed to 5g of Arginine, where most of which will be destroyed by the body, or used for other purposes.A lot of proprietary blends use Arginine b/c it is cheaper, so it gets more popular attention. I gave up on Arginine (AKG) about a year or so ago, and use exclusively Citrulline Malate.http://www.nutraplanet.com/product/nutraplanet/citrulline-malate-100-grams.htmlThe table salt increases vascularity. Only use a pinch. I use a pinch in my pre-, intra- and post- workout drink mixes.Cory

Totally! I love Cit. Mallate. As for the salt idea... I can't claim ownership. I got that from an OLD Steve Reeves interview. He used a pinch of salt in his workout shakes. Back then, they didn't have a lot of cool options like we have now. Those guys still made it work. 🙂We all owe them a salute, I think.Cory
