Is taking as much caffeine as recommended per day in the book safe to be taking every day?  I thought 400 mg a day was the safe dosage per day yet it is recommended to take as much as 600-800 mg at once in the book pre-workout.  I drink coffee every day, and today I decided to take 300 mg pre-workout.  I got through my first exercise (squats) and thought my heart was going to blow out of my chest.

It's different for everyone. Between pills and coffee, I take about 1 gram of caffeine daily. I can also have coffee after dinner and still pass out at 11pm.

Yup. I could have a pot of coffee right before bed and sleep soundly. In fact, it sort of has a strange reverse effect on me where I can get a little drowsy after a lot of coffee.

Be careful and work your way up though. I find that I can drink coffee all day, but if I take more than 400mg in pill form at once I feel awful.

I've heard the ratio of 2.5-5mg of Caffeine per # of BW is a good range as an ergogenic aid.  Experimentation within that range is necessary to find the sweet spot.

Never just jump into a supplement like caffeine because a book told you to. Start with 1 200mg pill and see how it works out, then go from there. I used to take 600mg pre and 400 post and found it a bit much. Now I take 400 pre and 200 post and it is working well.RB
