Hostess Pies and Cakes and other questions

    First up, there doesn't seem to be an area dedicated to talking about “hey, check out what I found to eat during my backload”. So I am posting here.I found a place with Hostess Pies, in fact all hostess products, 10 for $10 unlimited quantity.  So, I bought 20 Hostess pies (all they had on the shelf) and two big packs of twinkies too.  Usually, though I am an overeater, I don't eat a lot of sweet stuff, more of a savory guy, but I figured it was hard to get more sugar per weight than these hostess pies have to give.What do you guys think?  Is this a good option for lots of sugary carbs?  It seems bang on with some of Keifers recomendations.  I am looking for stuff to get the most carbs in with the least amount of bulk.  I know these are fatty too and I think maybe I should look into getting some dextrose or something like that to get more pure carbs without the extra fat.Lastly, on that topic, if your a heavier guy like me, I guess you still want to eat lots of fat with your protein during VLC periods but in the backload, I see some indication that I should try to just eat lots of protien and as much high GI sugary stuff but stay light on the fat content.  Any comment on that?  SHould I still shoot for a 1:1 P/F ratio during the backload?

    Typically you wanna keep the real shitty shit (such as pies cakes and such) toward the end of your backload.  You should keep fat relatively low in the beginning of the backload to get a nice high spike in insulin... as the night goes on you can then have that much desired and unrestrained love-affair with your hostess snack.  haHow much exactly are you weighing?  You said heavier so i don't know, does that classify you as big and lean /muscular or 25% bodyfat and should be doing CNS?  lol.

    LMAO!  Definately going to be a love affair going on with me and that big bag of Hostess Pies.  Thanks for the advice.  So it sounds like I'm better off in the begining eating more starchy rice/potato fare, maybe some pure dextrose or something, without the fat-back added then before I'm ready to curl up and sleep, down some fruit pies in hour 3-4 of backload?Yeah, I weigh 262 today and that is somewhere above 30% bodyfat for me, maybe as high as 35%.  You are not the first person to suggest I get on CNS instead but I'm just not sure I can keep up the volume of my workout (doing Starting Strength BB training 3 days a week and it is pretty heavy workload) which is slightly higher priority than the fat loss right now.  Its definately a tough decision on which way to go.  My one commitment right now is just to not get FATTER whether I am losing fat or not while gaining muscle.

    Hmm, great points.  I won't buy them again then.  I couldn't resist the bargain and remember eating them as a kid.  Not to be too obsessive but do you think I can get away with eating them until this batch is gone and then do the Whole Foods thing or is that going to throw everything out of whack?  I have a Whole Foods nearby and can get my stuff from there and make sure there is no HFCS etc...in the mix.

    Either WFM or bake your own stuff, where you can control the ingredients.  Baking does NOT mean Betty Crocker (or similar) mixes.  Baking means from scratch in this case.Yes, eat what you bought (if you cannot return it), but eat in small doses with baked goods from more healthful places, like Whole Foods Market.  Whatever Hostess you eat, save it for later in the back-load... NOT the first meal (which should be higher-carb, lower-fat anyway).Really, though, I'd try to return it if you can.Cory

    Exactly... a basic pie (apple in this case) shouldn't have a fucking book as its ingredient list.  Plus, look at all of those horrid things in there.Return them, if you can.Cory

    Went to winco after my workout tonight and got a huge pumpkin pie for later.  It has 14 servings, 45g carbs,32g sugar per serving and no HFCS, just 'sugar', no partially hydrogenated shit etc…looks like I found a winner, I love pumpkin pie.Man you have to look close because I found a nice looking blackberry cobbler but close to the bottom of the ingredient  list it had aspartame and I swore off that stuff myself after getting cancer.

    Aww man, hostess just went out of business. I ended up eating these, some of them. Man those pies are good IMHO.  Bad for us or not hostess shall be missed. Lol.
