JasterM5KeymasterHey all, I'm just starting the carb nite for the first time and I bought a large bag of pork rinds at a Mexican grocery mainly as a snack and substitute for bread crumbs like the book says. But after I got home I check the nutrition table and it says they have 270g of carbs per serving! This didn't sound right to me because of seen several people say they include them as snacks. What am I missing?

MikehrMemberYou probably bought flavoured ones man and your reading it wrong 270g of carbs is (270×4) 1080 calories? I had pork rinds last week, the Old Dutch ones, 0 carbs only ingredients are pork, lard and salt.http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=old+dutch+pork+rinds&um=1&hl=en&client=safari&sa=N&rls=en&biw=1280&bih=649&tbm=isch&tbnid=ydbK-HbtUMMkAM:&imgrefurl=http://www.taquitos.net/pork_rinds/Old_Dutch_Bacn_Puffs&docid=fmwBIuacmiIC8M&imgurl=http://www.taquitos.net/im/sn/OldDutch-BacnPuffs.jpg&w=150&h=235&ei=_pSdUO2qDuveigKB5ICgCA&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=14&sig=111867587695386612856&page=1&tbnh=153&tbnw=97&start=0&ndsp=19&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0,i:72&tx=49&ty=68

Richard SchmittModeratorYep original flavored pork rinds are perfect. Flavored not so much. Hell, crush them up and use them as “breading” for making an ULC chicken meal 😉

You're welcome! Just be sure to use eggs to help it stick to the chicken and bake for a while. Normally buttermilk would help as well.

JasterM5GuestNo, they're definitely not flavored. I broke off a small piece and tried it. Attached is a pic of the label.

decoy5657MemberIts mislabelled man.
Forums are busted and I cant' see the picture right now, but pork rinds/pork cracklins are just fried out pork skin and fat. No carbs. Even the flavored ones, I've seen a max of 5g of sugars. Not a big deal. Sounds like what you have is just labeled wrong.

Funny, I don't think I've ever had the desire to have pork rinds before this diet. Now... my mouth is watering and I just felt my stomach move. Damnit! You're welcome! Just be sure to use eggs to help it stick to the chicken and bake for a while. Normally buttermilk would help as well.
