Cory McCarthyMemberSpeaking of GABA, that supplement has a very profound effect on me. It actually makes my mind race and I feel anxious when I take it.
When I first started dosing it... I felt like I was going to die for about 5 minutes. I was thinking, "this is it!" Then the head-rush, tingles and odd synaesthesia feelings subsided, and it was good after that.Calms me at night, before bed (stacked with ZMAs and Cissus). Doesn't make me drowsy during workouts.Cory

Marty P KochParticipantI also take 5g GABA+5g Glutamine before bed for enhanced GH release. Cory is right, gotta watch out for that tightening in the chest/shortness of breath until you acclimate to it… Work up to the 5g from maybe 2g or so adding a gram at a time when the above reaction subsides.I tried it pre-workout for awhile, but found it took away some of the 'edge' and I wasn't able to ramp up enough aggression before lifts. Didn't make me drowsy, per se, just lost some focus and sort of felt 'chill' - and that certainly didn't suit the situation. Everybody responds differently, so I still second Cory in recommending people try it because I have heard from several independent sources that about 3g PWO is a great GH releaser.

2 g? I had trouble with 750 mg

Marty P KochParticipantWow, that is unusual. A few of us here at my gym all started w/ 2g back in the day when we were training Max-OT and other than the transient shortness of breath mentioned earlier, there weren't any problems. I even got my wife using it pre-bed as well once I got her into the gym with me, and she usually can't tolerate anything, but was fine with it, as well.As far as your reaction to the 750mg, I was/am the same with the DH-recommended 2mg piece of nicotine gum. I tried it and thought I was gonna die for about 30-40 min after it hit. I backed down to 1/2 a piece for a couple weeks which was fine, and then tried the full piece again, but the same bad reaction. I even tried 3/4 of a piece just to see what would happen, and no go on that as well. What can I say I'm pretty stubborn. Just more proof we are all different to varying degrees and everything we take into our bodies should be labeled caveat emptor.

I didn't have any physical symptoms like shortness of breath, it just made my mind race and it was difficult to fall asleep.

JakeMemberAnyone know anything about Picamilon (GABA with Niacin attached to it). Supposedly GABA doesn't cross the blood brain barrier but when attached to Niacin it does cross the barrier and then dissociates so it can bind to the GABA receptors. Suppose to be far more effective than GABA at significantly less dosages.

The fact that GABA does not cross the blood brain barrier is irrelevant because studies have shown it's effectiveness when directly ingested when it's not attached to Niacin. One of the possible explanations is that GABA is broken down into other amino acids in the liver that are responsible for the effects of the GABA supplement. However I am bumping this thread due to melatonin. I have noticed that, like clockwork, whenever I take melatonin I always wake up at around 5 AM and can't go back to bed. While melatonin allows me to fall asleep fast, it typically results in a poor nights sleep. I wonder if taking the sustained release would be a good idea?

FairyGuestErm, are you sure you don't get a really good night's sleep and then wake up at 5 am because you've done all the sleeping you need to do? This has happened to me ULC

Richard SchmittModeratorI would try it. I tend to have similar problems. I fall asleep great but during the night not so much and wake up literally 7-8 hours later but still feel sleepy.

FairyGuestActually, talking about sleep, I'm waking up and rolling over a lot each night ATM. I know that without a Zeo.

One night when I was sleeping with my Zeo, subconciously I took it off and tossed it on the floor lol.
