So I'm confused–The books and the board talk about avoiding BCAAs, Eggs and Whey shakes during the ULC portion of CBL or CNS due to the leucine content spiking insulin and ruining the effect of the ULC portion of the day. Yet, a pound of ground beef has about 4 grams of Leucine and a pound of bacon has 6 grams, whereas 20g of Whey only has about 2.5 grams of Leucine and an egg has less than half a gram of leucine–so if you eat four eggs or drink a whey shake you're getting less leucine than eating ground beef or bacon for lunch. So my question is: why should we avoid whey, bcaas and eggs in favor of ground beef or bacon? Do they really spike insulin any more than any other protein containing food overall? From what I can tell all protein has leucine in it and will spike insulin to some degree and its not so clear why DH identifies whey and bcaas as any worse than any other proteins. the animal fat in bacon, and ground beef blunts the insulin spike big time. Also the rate of absortion of whey isolate compared to whole fatty meats is much faster, as your body has to do a lot less work to break it down. But basically the fat is the determining factor, thats why eggs are fine as long as you cook em in butter or CO, as for the why keep it to 10g or less during the ULC portion of the day.

Yep pretty much. Guys first post was asking about Leucine and "WHY"Fats and Proteins combined help slow down insulin response to keep fat burning going and have the necessary energy for the day. You throw in a fast acting protein like isolate, that goes straight into the blood stream fairly quickly will cause an unwanted insulin spike if you're trying to go ULC. Anything above 10g of isolate and added fats won't do you any good, if you want whey use 10g or less with a tablespoon of coconut/MCT oil. Eggs same thing, add butter/coconut oil.

Liquid foods will spike insulin faster because of digestion.Milk proteins spike insulin more then other proteins.Beef doesn't seem to cause much of a spike at all, the fat coming with the meal helps a lot.

Look at the insulin response of the food itself.
