MikehrMemberTo get this right, there's a bit of supplementation you'll need to complement your HIIT cycles. I've long been known as a huge advocate of adding leucine to any supplement plan, and in terms of HIIT, I believe it's especially effective. Here, I'd recommend taking at least five grams of it before your workouts.Research in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that taking leucine-enriched amino acids before aerobic exercise can increase post-exertion protein synthesis by up to 33 percent—further proof of leucine's efficacy.Reprinted with permission from the Nov/Dec 2012 edition of Power Magazine.http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/hiit-can-get-you-huge-especially-if-you-are-meathead.htmlI have been doing this for a while now as I read on a couple of CT's thread and some AD threads that it was beneficial, and seem to have had great results but didn't have ny proof of it effectivness besides personal experience. The article also lays out a pretty cool 4 week on 4 week off sort of cycle for HITT with some good reasoning behind it.

MikehrMemberYeah I think it was IBOB who asked why i put in pre workout and I couldn't find any reference for why it is useful, until i found this.

MelgoGuestThank you very much for this. I am new to CBL, so I have a question (might be stupid, apologies):- How and how long do you take your Leucine before your HIIT training?Yesterday I tried mixing it in water, let's be honest, it's quite... disgusting 😮 In the PWO shake, no problems tho'.

Best way to take it is get some water in your mouth, dump the scooper straight in, and wash it down.

+1Sometimes you've just got to nut up, drop a scoop under the tongue, and wash it down. It really isn't that bad and is definitely not as bad as being weak and shitty.

MikehrMemberYeah apparently under the tongue absorbs faster too! So if your behind schedule try that out !

MelgoGuestOk – nut up – I will do that. Thanks guys!

Brandon D ChristParticipantThe true nutrition leucine actually blends in the water for me.

Richard SchmittModeratorNot sure, but I don't seem to have a problem with Leucine?

dudsyMemberGood read, two things that stood out for me here are:"Don't focus on speed here. Instead, increase your resistance and your rate of force production".Usually when i do hiit i have done the opposite. For example when using the prowler i would do lightly loaded suicides, running as fast as possible, rather than using a heavier load at a slower pace. So its seems like i had it all wrong. And"Make sure to schedule your training so that you complete your HIIT sessions up to an hour before you train with weights".So does this replace the fasted morning cardio idea? For those of us that follow the cbl guidelines we know afternoon training is ideal (which is what i do). So now instead of morning hiit, do i hiit around 3-4pm then, within an hr hit the weights?

Either or will work, fasted training works very well but if its more convenient to do it later then do it then. But it makes weights kind of a bitch lol I like having as much energy and glyco for lifting as possible
