itshanKeymasterSo I finally broke down and bought the ebook some time last week. Had it open on my laptop everyday since. I'm fairly new to Carb Back Loading because my history of eating has been low carb. I started at 5'8″ 210-215lbs roughly and am now floating around 173-175lb same height.I'm 4 days in post Prep Phase and have started my 3rd carb load today. My plan is to lift 5 days a week with 4 nights of carb loading roughly 400g of carbs.I'm still very much confused and trying to figure my way in this whole CBL structure of eating. I'm following the John Otis Hollywood Workout template with 2 Strength training days and 3 Hypertrophy days. It's on Shredded Nation if anyone wants to see it. I primarily lifted for strength starting with StrongLifts to MadCow to 5/3/1. After some reading, looks like hypertrophy is the way to go with CBL(?).I am trying to lean out at the moment. Some questions I would love to have answered are:1. If I'm trying to lose body fat, is 4 nights of CBL at 400g~ okay? Less? More?2. Should I have HIIT days?3. Hypertrophy or Strength training? Thanks for any advice guys!

Richard SchmittModeratorWelcome!

No no no...you can greatly improve strength with using CBL. If Hypertrophy is your goal then yes you can use CBL to achieve that. If you want to get strong as S.H.I.T. then CBL can get you there. Just structure meals accordingly. About the question with 400g x4 days a week...if you can swing it by 1) The amount of muscle mass you have and 2) Training is intense, then by all means do so. However, not every training session will be the same so not every carb amount is going to be the same as well. You have to find a good number for a specific time.

1) If you're honestly trying to lose body fat quickly, ever consider Carb Nite Solution? Pretty much the same principles as CBL just a 6-8 hour re-feed once a week. 2) You can do HIIT if you need it or want it.3) What's you're ultimate goal? Why not get stronger? Adding strength will bring added muscle.

itshanGuestThanks for the quick reply.I stray from strength training at the moment because I slipped my L5/S1 a year ago (squatting more than I should've due to my ego) and most tend to have you squat 3+ a week. I try not to put vertical pressure on my spine now.Main goal though is to lose as much body fat possible at the moment. The reason I choose not to do CNS is I've done CKD for a couple years and absolutely hate it. I only did it because it worked for me. I needed a rigid program to make sure I don't mess up. I want to slowly move into a more flexible way of eating and it looked like CBL was the right choice.I may go back to 5/3/1 BBB or babylovers SS. It's been on my mind lately. Thanks for you information about the carbs per day. I never thought of it like that.
