Hello,I am confused when you should consume your first cup of coffee. I have been having my coffee with HWC or MCT oil when I get up which is 8 hours after I last ate. My first actual meal is 12 hours from my last meal. Is this ideal?

It's a debated topic. Normally having the coffee with coconut oil around the 12th hour from the last meal is ideal, then getting a whole food meal about an hour or two after that. If anything just have plain coffee in the morning when you wake

That is pretty extreme it seems. It also seems harder and harder than to get enough fat in the diet doing it that way. Its hard enough I think to wait 3-4 hours upon waking for the first meal let alone another few hours.  Thank you for your input. I am willing to get it a shot for a week or so and see if I notice any difference. I usually just use HWC and I don't go over board on it.

Hate to disagree with Tex here, but since fat alone won't interrupt your fast I'd recommend having a coffee and some MCT upon waking..

I'm with Tex on this one.The way I do it is coffee when I first get up plain, then about 12 hours after my last meal I'll do coffee, coconut oil and 10-20 grams of whey isolate. Then I'll eat 1 to 2 hours after that.

Like I said it's a debated topic, mostly have to see if getting the coffee with oil first thing upon waking works or waiting for that 12th hour. Personally I wait 12 hours to have the coffee and then about two hours I have an ULC Whole Food meal

I'm doing the same. Coffee with CO at 12h and first meal at 13h mark. But I usally eat my last meal at 7pm so Coffee with CO is the first thing in the morning (besides nicotine gum) because I get up at 7am.  8)

I just listened to one of the podcast from September and Kiefer said that the fat alone won't break the fast and its about 2 to 3 hours before the body uses that fat as energy and that the 12 hour fast is not a maximum requirement. I also feel like stuff like this causes more confusion and anxiety in people instead of doing what works for them. In the same podcast he even said a pre-bed amino acid formula with ACE-K won't make a difference and the thing to be worried about more would be the amino acids compared to the ACE-K.

With usual fats that's true. MCTs on the other hand are used much faster. That's why Kiefer sometimes uses them preWO for high intensity high volume athletes..

This is for carb nite right? So it does not really matter! You can even wake up and have breakfast if you want to. This is much different to CBL and the mechanics are way different. For the sake of argument though coffee and cream with some CO is not going to disrupt anything g on CNS. People can argue this if they wish but I think people are mixing the information for the 2 protocols too often.Sure skipping breakfast MAY be optimal and waiting 12 hrs but I have a number of clients that don't get the chance to eat later so they just have a fat and protein breakfast and they are getting great results. CBL works on a different mechanism so we want to optimise certain times that our bodies are doing certain things.
