lillywhitesMemberQuestion for anyone….what should you expect to happen weeks 2-4? I'm working on cutting from 12.5% down to 10% (45yrs), however, not concerned about me… The question is for two female friends. After week 1, typical signs of low carbs intake were apparent, i.e. a little sluggish in the afternoons, and as each day went by. Both had a good carb nite (too much wine i'm sure), however, both stayed the same weight (weigh-in morning of carb nite). So for weeks 2-3, they're anxious to see some progress...as am I, because i'll lose them before they get to week 4 if the downward trend hasn't started. One is 35%, the other 24% BF....both get 90+gms of Fat per day, and currently around 115gms of protein. After reading the forums, i've had them cut that down to a 1:1 ratio based on their LBM. Both take Fish Oil, and CLA supplements...After the weight "bump" from carb nite, should they see a net negative on the scale after week 2?thanks

Richard SchmittModeratorWeight loss is not linear. What you should probably start doing, well should start doing, is take pictures, montior how clothes fit, what the mirror shows, and tape measurements. Yes with the loss of body fat, the scale could go down, not necessarily. Use those methods I mentioned above and see how it fairs first.

lillywhitesMemberthanks for the feedback….i'm trying to get them more into using a tape measure, as well as body fat % as a better judge than just the scale.....

Richard SchmittModeratorHide the scale. I know how curious someone might be to see if changes happen based upon a number. However, if they can visually see the changes I think that would put a different light on how and what they think. Take the weekly pictures, morning of a CN, along with measurements. If anything have them pull out a pair of jeans that they couldn't possibly fit into now but could a while back, I'm assuming they might have a pair and using this method as an example. If they can fit into those jeans THEN progress has definitely been made, if their current clothes fit a lot better than before then again progress is being made. The little things like that reassures anyone who is trying to lose body fat and feel better

RussiBGuestI would also strongly recommend losing the wine, especially during a re-feed. Whilst the sugar in the wine is carbs the alcohol probably isn't doing them any favours and is well known to stall progress for many people.I found it VERY difficult to see any significant difference the first month I did CNS until someone recommended I do the detox diet to help my body start fully metabolising fat (I came from a low fat diet to CNS) - this really worked for me and I did ten days reorientation on this:Grass-Fed BeefPastiured EggsSpinachPastured BaconGrass-Fed Unsalted ButterKeeping ratios of 0.75:1 fat to protein in CALORIES (for me personally this was 180 grams of protein and 60-70 grams of fat). After 10 days I had dropped all my Christmas weight (7-8 lbs). I try to eat as closely to this as possible most of the time now, with occasional variations to keep me sane. It can be quite difficult because there is little variety but spinach salad with meatballs, slow-cooked shredded beef (just use a ULC beef stock) and bacon omelettes got me through.Based on my own results I would be surprised if they didn't see improvement doing this but after ten days you may want to start adding fish and other items to help them. Fairy may be able to add more to this - I know she is a big advocate of keeping it simple and I believe follows this as closely as possible - check out her log, she has had amazing results.

I would agree with this, I have been tracking with JP3 measurements with calipers for 8 weeks. While I have seen some changes on the scale, the biggest change has been how my clothes fit. If you look at my thread you will find my JP3 progress posted in weekly increments, in the last few weeks I've seen little scale movement, but more lean body mass and less body fat.. Had it not been for the tracking and if I'd only gone off the scale, I might have thought I was making little headway, when in fact this eating plan is doing just as it said it would and that is to cut bodyfat and retain, or gain, lean body mass.

I've experienced the same. Scale weight has barely dropped at all since I started doing CN but I can see more definition and feel larger amounts of muscle. I can actually flex my chest now. I couldn't do that back in November and I had been training off and on for the majority of last year.

lillywhitesMemberthanks everyone….funny thing is, the woman at 35% is a rockstar, we can do two hour weight sessions in the gym and she loves it. The woman at 24%….meh, hates the gym…so as I tell her, you'll drop fat, albeit slower….you get out what you put in.
