This one's been a question for several months and Protein Factory (as well as TrueNutrition) both sell a leucine peptide product (same thing T-Nation's selling). They're banking on the fact that, in general, di- and tri-peptides absorb faster through the intestinal wall than intact proteins or even individual amino acids and also, the di- and tri-'s don't interfere with the speed of absorption of the other two. This enhanced uptake of the peptide vs. the individual amino acid, however, may be of little importance when it comes to maximimzing anabolic signalling.T-Nation's gamble: that leucine peptides absorb faster, and therefore produce a larger insulin spike than leucine alone and amplifies the effect of pure L-leucine. The truth: although they seem to misrepresent this as fact, there is no data that I've been able to find to support their claim, nor can I find enough information about the process to verify the quantity, quality and type of leucine peptides contained in their formula. Nothing exists (not even personal experimentation with the awful tasting crap) that convinces me of the enhanced potency.Verdict: even if it does absorb faster than isolated leucine, it's not worth the added cost.
