TmooneymamaKeymasterHi All. New girl here. I'm on day 4 of CNS and last night I totally screwed up and was DYING for a few grapes and some baked beans. So I did it. The thought of meat, eggs or cheese was repulsive. I think I had “carb flu” with a mix of PMS. I looked like I was 4 months pregnant as well. SO BLOATED! Anyway, this is stupid easy in terms of concept, but making the transition from fruit, veggies, chicken and salmon has been interesting. I have a question: my gym offers Insanity classes and it is HARD and awesome and fun. Great work out. Only thing is that it is at 11:15 am. I tried it last week on an empty stomach (baby steps started with skipping bfast) and coffee and literally threw up. I'm not incredibly out of shape, either. I don't want to do that again. What would you suggest I eat beforehand? I know it is ideal to work out in the afternoon, but I have two kids that desperately need naps at that time and trust me, skipping their naps is ten times worse than carb flu.I so appreciate any feedback. I recently turned 30 and have always eaten healthy with a side of whatevertheFIwant...but I'm really struggling to get the belly to not look like an old mans ballsack. I lift heavy and quit running...skinny fat is not how I want to appear or be. Oh, and I purchased Strong Curves and am going get after it.Here's a "before pic". (please don't laugh-I am extremely insecure about my mid section and have given birth to two 9 lb boys)Stats: 30 years old127.4 lbs before CNS5.3"29% BFHappy Friday everyone, and thanks again.Tara

GnomerParticipanti'd hold off on insanity until your body adjusts to the low carb lifestyle. Once you get to the point your body is using fat as fuel(after the prep phase) you can use a tablespoon of coconut oil to help get through a workout. They have done endurance biker studies that have shown once someone is gotten used to ketosis they can do endurance work on just fats no problem. If you still feel like crap during the workout you can add 10g of whey isolate and see if that helps out on top of the coconut oil.During the prep phase id just stick to weight training and maybe some short HIIT sessionsalso if you ate all those carbs on just day 4 i'd probably restart with prep phase again if it was well over 30g of carbs(like 50+).. if it wasn't then you should be fine

Brandon D ChristParticipantYea you are gonna have a hard time doing Insanity when you are low carb. If you were male I'd tell you to stay away from it, but since you are female I'd say adjust to being low carb and then you can give it a go.By the way you can have chicken, salmon, and veggies on CNS. Fruit needs to be eliminated except maybe strawberries, but you can have some of that on Carb Nite.

tzanghiParticipantIf you genuinely enjoy Insanity, I'd follow what Ibob has said. However, you can definitely get the same/better results with a less strenuous training regimen.

TmooneymamaGuestThank you all for your input. I failed CNS the first time. Too many children's birthday parties filled with crap and more crap and to be honest, I felt disgusting on CNS. I want to give it another try because I feel like I will never lose my belly fat if I continue on the path I am. I work out hard, but have the worst sweet tooth and eat at least one cookie/day.Two questions: If I stop eating by 8 pm, wake up at 5:30 am and am at the gym at around 9:30-10, is that too long to fast? I drink coffee in the am with coconut oil and have ordered MCT oil (waiting for it to arrive) but is that enough before lifting? Also, if I do a hybrid of CBL and CNS, does that actually work (training days= CBL, non train=CNS) does that actually work? I don't want to overthink this, but it's a hard way to eat when you're busy with kids and always moving. I felt really crappy...Thank you 🙂

My wife is in the same boat - 3 kids, busy life and feels "crappy" eating meat and fat all the time. Specifically, she's not a big fan of fat. When your body adjusts to such a LONG period of being on a low-cal, low-fat diet like what she was on, it's bound to feel strange at first to suddenly take in more calories and TONS of fat. She would always complain, "I feel greasy. I feel like I just rolled around in that bacon." Stuff like that lol. Honestly, I think there's probably just an adjustment time. Us guys LOVE our fatty meaty foods so it feels like less of a sacrifice for me than it does for my wife.I feel ya on the sweet tooth though. My opinion, get some things that will help you cope. I know a lot of people say, "quit the sweets cold turkey to get it out of your system" but in my opinion, that's a sure-fire way to get discouraged and give up. DAY ONE on ULC, I had to peruse the ULC Desert recipes b/c it was killing me to not have my Blue Bell ice cream! So I found a ULC ice cream recipe that is AMAZING and I bring sugar-free jello snack packs with me to work. It really does make the process of going ULC just that much more bearable.Good luck to you. I hope you find your niche in this thing and stick it out. 🙂

GnomerParticipantI am a mom of 2 (plus 2 extra kids m-f) and have to work out at 5am to get it in before the chaos of my day.The best thing I can say about birthday parties is I told all my friends that I am doing my ULC days and they don't even offer me anything. I am bad for finishing kids treats and what not. So I throw a napkin or wipe over the minute they are done. I also pack a bag of almonds in my purse to munch on. I had that yucky feeling starting CNS too. It took about 2-3 weeks to balance out and for me to stop worrying about all the fat intake. Days I feel like I can't take the grease I have a lot of eggs or chicken.
