Hi I am a 20 year old female and compete in powerlifting.  This past 6 months I was backpacking in Asia and did not do any weight training, let alone much other exercise other than walking.  Over half way through I noticed that I had gained weight. I had gained just about 10 pounds. I got back into the gym as soon as I got home, and back into the diet plan that once had worked for me to lose weight. This time nothing was changing and I was going to try anything in my will to avoid all types of cardio. A few members from my home gym had done CBL and I wanted to try it. After the preparation phase I had lost around 6 pounds. Starting at 143 and ending at 137.  After my first CBL my weight had pretty much jumped right back up to 141 and has stayed around there since.  I understand that when you eat carbs, you retain water weight for every gram. I also hadn't planned out my grams of carbs on backloading nights but I assume around 250. Is my weight gain due to too many grams of carbs on CBL nights? I am training 3 days a week and backloading on all 3 and on one weekend day that I am not at the gym. Is this too many CBL days?In my stomach area I feel leaner, but the numbers are just not showing for it!Any advice?

Im not going to vote because I think you'll just short change yourself with whatever answer you get from an over simplified questionaire. IMO its too early to tell if either of those things are making the difference. Your body will take a while to adjust to new dietary patterns and that alone will mess with your fluid balance and thus weight.Make sure you are getting enough protein and fats. Forget the scale, and use your strength and the mirror for a better gauge of progress. Get back to a normal routine for awhile. get your old strength back (plus some!) and then if you feel you need to drop weight in order to compete then maybe look at it then. Otherwise move up a weight class and enjoy the extra muscle that youll have from backloading! (:mt 2 cents
