dirinKeymasterMy understanding of GLUT is that when the muscles are activated they signal for GLUT4 and 12 to transport building blocks to the areas that require new tissue/repair. Insulin allows this to work much more effectively and at much greater gain. My question is the following. If we bust ass hardcore at the gym, and the next day we have DOMS (Sore ass muscles) is GLUT4 and 12 still signalling in the muscle tissue when it's sore the next day?

atomicusMemberInteresting question. As I understand it, there are several theories as to the actual cause of DOMS, with no real consensus as to the exact reason for it. Therefore it may be hard to know if the GLUT4 and 12 are still signalling, short of anecdotal evidence in those who have experimented with CBL and what results they've had. DOMS does appear to be related to physical trauma caused in the muscle though, so I'm not sure how that connects with the GLUT aspect, if at all. Either way, CBL requires INTENSE workouts to be beneficial, so I'm sure DOMS is likely to be a side-effect for many people.

GLUT4 is activated by concentric contraction, whereas DOMS is largely dependent on eccentric muscle activation, so the two don't have much in common. GLUT4 wears off quickly after a workout. It starts to decrease around 2 hours I believe and then is probably done around the 4-6 hour mark.
