Hi everyone. This is my first post here. I started off at 198lbs and I'm currently doing CNS and have been on the diet for 5.5 weeks. I've already lost 17lbs which is probably too much in such a short timeframe. I've also lost a little strength too. I've always struggled to gain weight and getting to 198 wasn't exactly easy. I've bought the CBL book as I Plan to do that next. I think maybe it is more suited to me due to the fact I can drop weight pretty quickly.  I've been browsing for a while and cannot seem to find any information on this so I'll ask away.Obviously, in the AM/Pre workout you eat Ultra low carb. This involves eating plenty of fats and some protein. My understanding is that after it's eaten, fat can take up to 6 hours before it is useable. So, if I have my lunch at 12pm and a snack at 3pm then train at 5pm The fat could be being digested at the same time I'm backloading. And as late as 9pm. Would it be better to have lunch a little earlier, say 11am. No snack at 3pm then train as normal at 5pm-6 or 6:30pm and then start the backload  afterwards or am I over thinking things? Thanks in advance.

Personally, I have not found any drawbacks to the timing of pre-workout fats, but you could experiment with meals earlier in the day.  One of my favorite things to do on a large backload night (500-700g), is to finish ULC eating much earlier in the day, and eat about half as much as I usually do.  This ensures that I won't have any issues in getting the carbs down, as this is the idea on CN.

You are over thinking my friend. You need to eat fat and protein during the day. I eat at 12:00pm and workout at 5:00pm. You will be fine. Stick to the basic guidelines and you will be fine.

I believe saturated fat only takes 2-3 hours. Stick with that (meat fat, butter, coconut oil).

Yeah pretty much MCT oils (MCT oil itself and coconut oil) will provide that needed fat energy source right then and there. Butter and animal fats will be further like 2-3 hours.

In Propane Fitness podcast, the guest on the show asked Kiefer about this.  Kiefer said that as long as you have your last ULC meal two hours pre-workout you are fine.  The fatty acids will star to appear in the bloodstream around the time your workout finishes, but you're body will not want to store fat in that state. If you taking something closer to the workout, use MCT oil.

Thanks for the info guys. That's awesome. I'll get some MCT oil ordered. Meanwhile, it's carb nite.

x1.  I used to do the same thing.  Too much overthinking.

It was actually a very good question.  I wouldn't call it overthinking.
