Hi guys, I'm new to the siteĀ  8)On my second week of CBL, things are going well but one thing I want to know is how much emphasis on "sugar" do you place?I notice I cope better on carbs such as potatoes, rice etc rather than biscuits and cakes etc! When I opt for the more sugary things I seem to get spotty for one.Would things like bagels, bread, rice cakes be good backloading material? Any other suggestions for other foods?

Indeed, there has been recent discussion on lower sugar backloads. The general conclusion I think has been staying away from table-sugars because of the fructose, and fructose sugar is a good idea. But other than that its fine.

Fructose is fine. Table Sugar is fine. But obviously go with what feels good.

This is because sugars contribute to cholesterol production, which flows on to making all the steroid hormones. This is a good thing. The acne is a result of increased metabolic rate and the need for additional nutrients since they are being used up quicker.

Personally, I'd say that on CNS fructose in moderation is just fine, but on CBL it should be kept minimal. The reason being that on CBL we aren't depleted, so our livers could still be topped off with glycogen. Thus when the fructose comes into the liver, it has nowhere to go except to be stored as fat. On CNS, by the time you have carbs your muscle and liver glycogen are depleted, so the fructose is just helping to refill liver glycogen. As for acne .. (I was wondering what getting "spotty" meant!) It actually is generally a response to systemic inflammation, usually in the gut, via the "gut-skin axis." So if table sugar makes you break out in acne, there is likely some sort of gut issue going on that is causing inflammation, resulting in acne. And with including things like bagels, bread, biscuits, etc in your diet, it isn't surprising to have some gut inflammation.

+1 on the CNS-Fructose intake. But not throughout the night. Keifer suggests a low fat low carb before starting CN to help the liver adjust, and i think the recommendation for that was a Banana because it has about Half Fructose, more if its not over-ripe.

Rice Crisps are good for spiking insulin. I think they are around 100 on the GI scale actually.
