Ernie TaylorMemberHi, Bought the Carb backloading book. I only do heavy lifting every second day but I work out every day. M W F weight lifting and Tuesday and Thursday I do cardio. I read the update that Kiefer posted about taking in your carbs the night before your big workout. So I would ingest them on Sunday night instead of monday. From reading the carb backloading book, wasnt the whole point to ingest your carbs within the hours after heavy resistance training? I dont remember off the top of my head but he listed the reasons why it was nearly impossible to gain fat the first few hours after training. I am someone who gains fat easy and really dont want to get fat as hell off of this.

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorIt depends. What kind of cardio are you doing? And what are your goals? And when do you train?

Ernie TaylorMemberMy cardio is couch to 5 k. I run at 7mph as long as I can and then rest and then run again. I only can run 2 or 3 minutes. My goal is fat loss and strength gain. I train in the evenings only. Never mornings.

Brandon D ChristParticipantOk, you DO NOT need to backload before big workouts. Actually PWO backloads are the preferred method. That video you referenced caused a shitstorm when it was released because people thought Kiefer was saying to backload the night before workouts. He later clarified that you only backload the night before if you have to and that PWO backloads are the preferred method due to tGLUT translocation.

CCTMemberI find that carbs before a big workout only works for fat loss if the big workout is done fasted in the morning, or around noon. I've had the best fat loss with large backloads after evening workouts, so any “extra” carbs can be used in my HIIT sessions on the days after I backload

OurkoParticipantI think everyone who begin with CBL should backload after wo as said in the book. And only after, when something goes wrong, or stalls, or anything else that could need a tweak for more energy during session, fat loss etc. So we can start trying backloads the night before. My2cts.Other though : sometimes it could be beneficial to be progressive in the change for the macros.

Exactly. I don't know why so many people insist on modifying it.

RoadblockParticipantWhat's the going thought on the 2 off day rule? Workout and backload on Friday and next workout is Monday. I have done a backload on Sunday but not regularly. I just can't see a reason to backload without activating MTR.RB

That's only if you have to. If you don't need it, don't do it.

That's only if you have to.(If you feel like you are gassed on the workout. That means that you need glycogen and are too depleted. If you don't need it, don't do it. +1
That's how I understand it too.RB
