wpMemberThere are some food that I am craving for my CN this Friday but have never been mentioned in this forum (or may be I skipped it). I wonder if these food are clean enough for the earlier meals or should I save it till last. 1. Meringues (only egg whites, sugar, and icing sugar. totally fat free)2. French macarons (gluten free, very high in sugar, consist a large amount of almond powder)3. Anpan (a traditional japanese bun with red bean jam as filling. also low in fat but very sugary)4. Mousse cakes ( i'm a pastry chef so these would be home made, def lots of heavy cream)I also want to ask except for HFCS, what other sugar should I try to avoid. Thanks in advance.

CCTMemberOther than HFCS i dont really avoid any sugars, but it is recommended to keep sucrose under 120g. 1. Meringue: Excellent for early on in the CN. Protein+carbs+0 fat= huge ass insulin spike 2. macaroons: Probably better for the later meals due to the fat content of almonds, but it wont kill you to have it a little earlier on. If takibng early, take a dextrose/leucine shake with it. 3. Anpan: Fine to eat any time, also ideal earlier on, but I like to eat it later on and smear a glob of grass fed butter on it. 4: Probably ideal for the lat meal before bed as it is not only loaded with carbs, but also fat.

TCBParticipantUnless you're already down to low teens-ish bodyfat% and trying to get sub-10% or something, I'd say just pound some carbs and don't be overly concerned about it. If you want to worry about it, I'd just drop in a hard, intense strength training session right before your carb nite to get some MTR going and take advantage of that.As far as HFCS and other sugars. IDEALLY, you want as pure of glucose as you can get. Table sugar (sucrose) is about 50% glucose, 50% fructose. HFCS is about 55% fructose(generally). Something like Dextrose powder or waxy maize is nearly 100% glucose. But again, unless you're already fairly lean; just eat carbs and get those insulin spikes.

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorIf you avoid HFCS you should avoid sucrose (table sugar, Cane sugar organic or not) beet sugar, honey, molasses. Pretty much anything aside from dextrose.Moral of the story, don't worry about avoid HFCS.Avoid Agave syrup though, it's so much worse then HFCS.

wpMemberThanks guys for the replies. Because I was in the grocery store today and saw lots of “i-want-it-on-carbnite” food with glucose, sugar, corn syrup blah blah blah. So yeah…i guess i will just have a good time and not worry about it.thx again.
