AirPoweredMemberHey everyone!Just wondering, when having your carb nite or backloading night, should you have a meal of carbs every two hours or so, seeing as Kiefer says insulin drops after 1-2 hours? To keep insulin elevated for 6-8 hours?

Richard SchmittModeratorThat would not hurt to do so, you also have to think about digestion. Instead of cramming ungodly amounts of food in an hour and then expecting to do so an hour later.

GnomerParticipantWhat works best for me is smaller amounts of food every hour or so. Big meals every few hours make me feel sick.

SpatzModeratorI just asked the same question in my log yesterday -lol, I should have just waited until you asked today 'eh?? Well, here are some of the responses I received from helpful members.
this will mostly be dependent on how you eat.. i personally like larger meals less frequently but you would do fine with small carb meals spread throughout the entire time.. really is no "best way" because the best way could be completely different for you than someone else... will probably take so time to figure out what works best for you..
For me, the best way is 3 meals, 2 desserts. Starting lower fat, the last meal and both desserts tent to be more fat.Over around 6 hours, I don't over stuff myself, I just enjoy it.
My CN are on fridays...Usually I go to the gym at 4pm, then im done by 6pm and out by 630.Normally Ill have a sandwich or a burger with fries around 730pm.Then I eat a whole bag of chips around 9pm... And thats all. I am not doing what is recommended. But its working and I like it. With CNs, youll find its trial and error until you find your sweet spot. Hell, im a beer drinker and I usually drink a 6 pack a week the day after the CN and everything is fine 😛
I eat multiple times for 3-6 hours and I do that 2-3 nights in a row. I'd say every 30minutes I eat something and occasionally add leucine/WPI to help with the spike. I basically don't worry about anything and eat what I want. I do try my best to make sure my heaviest training days are the mornings after.
So honestly it's whatever works best for your body. Everyone is different and there are no set intervals for all body types. Try every couple of hours for a few weeks of CN, and if that doesn't seem to be getting you the results your looking for, switch it up and try eating more often. Or like Summerwolf you may not need to eat that much or that often.Good luck 🙂

My wife and I have learned to do the exact same thing. Plus, especially for her make the first couple of feedings really low fat like sushi and rice krispie treats so she doesn't feel full, having a full meal later in the evening and always ending the night with some fatty ice cream. Usually a martini too! 🙂

I always have sushi on CN but figured it was too high in fat to have really early on so I've been trying to keep it until at least the halfway mark. I suppose it depends on the type of sushi you're eating but I get the teriyaki chicken and the tuna rolls which both have that super yummy Japanese mayo so that's I figure shouldn't be one of the first meals?

CBachelor17MemberIf your backloading your CN (starting it PWO) its probably fine. That being said its probably better to wait until later regardless.

We've found it depends on the person. My wife gets full fairly easily...me not so much. ;D It is true there are many different types of sushi. The types we like to eat as our first feeding on Carb Nite is similar to California rolls or nigiri sushi which is piece of fish on a rice bed. Both types have about 1g of fat, 2g of protein and 6g of high glycemic carbs per piece.http://www.sushifaq.com/sushi-health/calories-in-sushi/

Richard SchmittModeratorIf you take out the avocado you'll be more than fine…or save extra rice to roll for more sushi later!
